What could this be

This predominantly happens when I have had poor / little sleep
Although the worst episode happened after overdoing a swimming session
It only occurs occasionally (say once every 6 weeks)

I get an episode of heart palpitations, light headedness and weakness
To the point of struggling to stand up

The odd thing is if I make myself vomit. I very suddenly feel absolutely fine

Has anyone ever encountered this?
Any ideas what the issue could be?

I am quite far post menopause. I am 48.
Went through menopuase early 30s
No I haven't thought of Iron as it is more a rare occurrence thing rather than generally feeling tired. Maybe something to look at though

Personally, I would get this checked out and in particular get my heart checked. The weakness to me is probably the most concerning thing about your symptoms.
Why on earth would you even think about making yourself vomit?

Look up cyclical vomiting syndrome .
It might answer your questions.
I think it used to be called a stomach migraine previously.

Sometimes vomiting is a way to get rid of the horrible feeling of nausea

Thank you for the replies
I don't actually feel nauseous
Just making myself sick seems to work.

Hi @kitsuneghost
I think it could be your iron levels too, hope you feel better x

neveradullmoment99 · 06/10/2023 20:14

Could it be anxiety related ?

Blueuggboots · 06/10/2023 20:48

Making yourself sick stimulates the vagal nerve which causes your heart to slow down....
I would speak to your GP after logging how often this happens, and how fast your heart is beating at the time, and whether it is regular or irregular.

That's interesting to know.
Will definitely start taking a log thanks

Hi, @kitsuneghost have you found out more about your symptoms yet? I get similar.. used to be just at night after a heavy late meal & a glass of wine.. thought it was food poisoning as being sick relieved it (not booze literally would be after 1 small wine).., now I notice it sometimes in the day.. had it today. An overwhelming feeling of exhaustion & slight nausea, waves of light headedness.. it's horrible. I have had low iron but no idea if better as docs so difficult to get apts with. I've had daily heart palpitations for coming on 2 years now.. had heart all checked out & 'normal'.. might be peri-meno I'm late 40s but going on hrt has not helped. It's awful! I'm convinced it's something pressing on my vagus nerve too having read up on it.

Have you tried making yourself cough instead of being sick? Coughing stops my palpitations.
