Muscle stiffness not going away

About a month ago I got some sort of lurgy that made my muscles stiffen up and made me generally weak and unwell. The doc ruled out autoimmune and deficiencies and various diseases, said I haven’t lost any strength or sensation, diagnosed a virus and told me to rest.

I’m loads better, but still so stiff and achy. When I wake up in the morning my muscles are frozen up and I have to spend 20 mins stretching my legs, hands, neck etc before I can get on with my day. I’m still somewhat limited in what I can do and how far I can walk.

I’m starting to worry that this isn’t going away. It’s been over a month - 2 weeks getting worse then 2.5 weeks getting better. I’m worried it’s a disease the doc has failed to diagnose. I’m worried I’m going to be stuck like this and not return to full capacity. Any advice?

Get some magnesium supplements, and see a physio.

It can take months to get over some viruses, this seems to have been fogotten with all the covid focus over recent years, viruses can hit us any time and can affect the body for months.

Magnesium a someone else has suggested

How old are you? Menopausal women often suffer joint pain due to decreasing oestrogen levels bit this can develop over time.

Also try anti-inflammatory foods, eg olive oil, avocado, eggs, turmeric... I find that fish oil supplements help with stiff joints too.

I’m 44. The doc said it isn’t menopause related because it came on suddenly over the course of a couple of weeks. She checked my magnesium levels too and I’m good.

I didn’t think it would take that long to get over a virus. I’ve had flu and Covid etc, I’m usually knocked out for a fortnight then pretty much back to normal, back at the gym etc. But this is nearly five weeks now and I’m still nowhere near full capacity. And I’ve never heard of a virus which stiffens your muscles either, although the doc assured me it does happen.

I stopped eating bread in my mid 40s, and 'bready products' although the odd ryvita and things like that seemed to be ok, I noticed that they really swelled me up and affected my joints.

Magnesium might be ok in terms of the blood test, no deficiency but extra magnesium can help with muscle aches etc

I had a virus, no fancy name to it, for about 4-5 months, 10 years ago. Im left with life long effects now, no one is bothered about 'long virus' but its common. But people will fall over themselves about long covid.

I agree, the old fashioned post viral effects have now become long covid.
As you’re heading towards peri menopause it would do no harm to jump on Vit B complex, magnesium glycinate, vit D3 and K2, and a good quality omega three. Hopefully something in there will help you.
I used to suffer with stiffness until I got moving, used to shuffle down the stairs sideways in the mornings, but omega 3 helped that.
