Anyone used a humidifier in their dc's room at night?

ds has been waking up coughing and very hoarse and my gp suggested I either try putting a damp towel on the radiator or get a humidifier for his room. The damp towel didn't really help, so i'm looking in to getting a steam humidifier for him, has anyone tried one and what success did you have with it?

They are GREAT! They are the saviour of many a nights sleep in our house. Child coughs, you go put on the himidifier, they sleep, it's great! Only problem is the peeling wallpaper!

Humidifier is brilliant - we got a cool mist one, with a biggish tank, and have it on in dd2's room most nights (she has the airing cupboard in her room, so it gets dry - plus she has had endless coughs/colds this winter).

We put it on so it works one minute in every three, and only about 2-3 ft from the cot.

oh in that case I think I'll give it a try. I've found this one but I'm not sure it comes on and off. I guess I could always just put it on one of those timer plugs so it comes on an off during the night.

Do you put anything in your humidifiers elibean and minko? I've got some children's olbas I've been using for colds and thought this might help when he gets the snuffles, otherwise might just stick to plain water.

I have one in each of the boys rooms. TBH if it is for a childs room go for a micro mist rather than a hot steam one. As there is no chance of them burning themselves as they get older.

Re the oils, you do not put them in the machine and they only really work in an oil well which you will find on a steam one/

Also we found olbas a stimulant when the boys were little.

We've used them loads with dd and ds. It really does help. But I agree that it peels the wallpaper off. ds's Scooby border keeps falling off. I'd much rather that happened than hear him cough all night though.
Get one! Mine is the cheapest one they sell in Argos.

No oils in ours, just water

Wallpaper, amazingly, is doing fine so far.

Thanks for the top tip about the olbas oil themadhouse, I'll stick to putting it on a tissue in future. The one I've found stays cool on the outside when it's running. I guess once ds is old enough to get out of bed on his own I'll have to find a high shelf for it or somewhere where he can't get at it. No wallpaper in ds' room, just paint, we'll have to see if his wall stickers will survive!
