What is wrong with me?!

I've posted here before quite a while ago. But here I am again.
I was wondering if anyone has ever suffered like this before and had a good outcome. Basically:

*9/10 times when I stand up I go dizzy (have been dizzy just sat down but not as often)
*Headaches once week. That literally wipe me out for days
*Ill feel weak for at least half a week

Has anyone else ever had this before? The scary thing is I've started getting tingly/numbness feeling in my right leg and foot. And waking up with the same feeling in my right arm. Also having muscle twitches (not really bad but I can see the muscle twitching when I look). No one has took me seriously until these new symptoms have started. I am now waiting an appointment with a neurologist. I can't bare feeling like this anymore. I have a 10YO and a 1YO. It's exhausting being happy mummy all day when I just want to be in bed all day everyday. It's been going on now for quite a few years. Even worse after having my second baby. Anyone?!

Iodine and selenium are necessary for thyroid health. Excessive intake however is dangerous!

Even though, the UK has not introduced a programme of iodine fortification, iodised salt can easily be purchased (like this one https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/cerebos-iodised-table-salt/559124-79136-79137)

You only need a couple of Brazil nuts to meet your RDA in selenium 🙃

WillWeSeeTheSunAgain · 03/10/2023 07:58

They must obviously rule out any neurological illness but also have a look at the symptoms for ME/CFS. The reason I say this, and I know this is very difficult when you have young children, but while you're waiting for a diagnosis, please try not to push yourself to do anything physically exhausting like exercise. If it is something like ME/CFS, pushing yourself can actually make you feel a lot worse long term so if you feel like you need the rest, definitely take it if you can.

There are supplements that are good for energy like CoQ10 but I don't know what interacts with your thyroid medicine. Good luck and I hope the doctor is helpful later!

popsickle555 · 03/10/2023 08:01

I know everyone blames everything on Covid now but POTS (which it sounds like) is linked to long Covid, could it be that? The dizziness and exhaustion fits the criteria…

Thank you I've just been researching this online and there are symptoms that do match up with mine! Would this be something the neurologist could look into?

You know what. I was searching my symptoms (again🤣) and I come across a platform which one lady did mention about long covid and dizziness with extreme tiredness! Makes you wonder doesn't it! I have had covid. Twice actually. But I'm 90% sure I've felt like this longer than covid even came about!

That's Interesting about the Brazil nuts! Thanks for the link. I do have salt tablets which I tried but didn't make a difference 😞 maybe I should try again and give it longer!

Iodized salt is not the same as salt tablets. It is to be used like any salt: cooking, seasoning, etc. 😋

Iodized salt is fortified in iodine. Very common in many countries to prevent iodine deficiency. No such fortification programme in the UK

Cannot believe a dr does not know what POTS is!!

Come on, GPs are generalists. Stands to reason unless this is their area of expertise they will check the information available. Knowledge and treatments are developing all the time for all kinds of conditions.

HelpNeededBeforeIHaveABreakdown · 03/10/2023 18:05

Is it Hashimoto's or autoimmune thyroid disease? It is often suggested to eat gluten free with thyroid disease, it is also associated with coeliac disease so you might want to be tested for that before trying gf.

Panackelty · 03/10/2023 19:08

Suggestion to get all your blood test results and the ranges is a good one. Sometimes my GP just files them away as ok if at limit of range or even just outside limit.

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/10/2023 19:29

Crikeyalmighty · 03/10/2023 20:17

Long covid or vaccine issues generally cause lots of these things too- my first things were pins and needles, weird internal tremors (felt like a battery was switched on in lower legs and a finger) plus light headed/dizzy feelings- it has gradually improved over a year - now my only remaining issues seem to be an occasional painful neck/ back of head headache and dry/sore eyes - the pins and needles now are much rarer-

teraculum29 · 03/10/2023 20:23

OP,
how's your glucose levels??

Kaill · 04/10/2023 07:05

Muscle twitches and tingling are most likely anxiety. You admitted these symptoms only started after you were worried about the other symptoms. Honestly your headaches could be anxiety as well.

Dizziness happens to me too, it’s postural hypotension. It happened when I went through puberty and started to happen again when I hit perimenopause, so it’s hormonal. Can be related to thyroid or vitamin deficiencies too. Even dehydration and lack of carbs and electrolytes can cause it.

I don’t see any symptoms here that would worry me at all. Stuff like MS is usually not systemic (whole body) it generally affects one part to begin with. Plus you would usually have other neurological symptoms, loss of muscle power or sensation etc. This just sounds like bad anxiety with maybe a bit of peri or vitamin deficiency.

I don’t think it helps sending you to a neurologist, because now you’re worried there is something wrong, and there probably isn’t. You need to relax. Try reading Claire Weekes book called Help for your nerves. Do some meditation exercises. Distract yourself and get out a bit. Maybe talk to someone about whatever deeper issues are affecting you and making you feel anxious.

Wallywobbles · 04/10/2023 13:56

What do your blood tests actually say. Because what the UK says is within the normal range wouldn't be in a lot of other countries. Particularly vit D.

You could do some interesting research on this and I'm pretty sure you'd be able to access normal ranges for France and a Nordic country of your choice and compare, to see if you're still in normal ranges.

Do you take any multi vitamins? Or supplements? I'd be on the floor without them but I'm a bit older than you.

Do you have any brain fog or exhaustion? Can you describe "weak" in more detail?

Have you had your eyes tested?

Panackelty · 04/10/2023 16:23

3ofus3 · 03/10/2023 01:07

What can I do to test if it is my thyroid tho? Take an extra 25mg each day and see if it improves? Bloods did come back ok with that.

I always check the exact results for TSH FT4 and FT3 against the ranges before asking for an increase.

I probably should know shouldn't I 🫣 but all I know is that I'm under active! Never tried gluten free before. I will honestly try anything. Food shop tomorrow so I will certainly pick up gluten free stuff!

I have suffered with anxiety since I was 16. I a 31 now and this has felt very different to my usual anxiety for the last 3+ years. A few doctors have said they thought it was anxiety too. I'm just not convinced. I could be totally wrong! Either if I'm having a bad anxious week or a great week the symptoms stay the same!

That's interesting! I was meant to call my doctors today to ask all my blood results and write them down to double check! Baby's not had a great day so completely forgot. Definitely on my to do list tomorrow tho! When I say week I mean I literally feel like I can't get up sometimes. Even walking to the stairs my muscles in my legs hurt! It's hard to describe. Thanks for your message

All I know that everyone I've had has come back "normal" Calling the doctors tomorrow to get all my blood work results and I will write them down. I will also ask if I had gluecose if not I will be asking for them to check it! Thanks
