Need advice about dd2 who has a temperature

She's 16 months old.
I don't know whether to give her Calpol or not. If she's sleeping can I just let her sleep or do I have to give her Calpol? Feel all confused!

Bump?
Believe you only need to give her Calpol if her fever is high - 39 or 40 degrees I think - rather than just above normal.
From my experience, if they are really poorly, they go straight back to sleep if you do have to wake them up for Calpol.
Good luck for the night.

I tend to give Calpol if my babes are running high temp or clearly uncomfortable and running slight temp. But not if temp is only just above normal on its own with no other symptoms.

I don't bother to wake them unless running a very high temp.

Thanks for your answers.
Her temperature is 38.5 - measured with an ear thermometer, she didn't wake up. So should I let her sleep then?
Sorry to be so helpless, but believe it or not this is the first time ever that one of my children runs such a high temperature. (I know I'm very blessed.)

I wouldn't worry too much, dose her with Calpol at the next opportunity. Do you have a syringe? If so you could try dribbling it in whilst she is asleep. I'm not sure what other mum's think about doing this.

Would you consider setting the alarm so that you could check her in the night?

Wouldn't generally be concerned about the temp you mention as long as you're sure it's 'stable'.

Must confess I felt truly shocked when my ds2 had a high temp late one night that wasn't responding to calpol and I realised I would have to stay up with him all night/until temp started to come down. He was only 9mths but I had SO got used to him sleeping through.

If you find the temp. keeps going up, or won't come down you can combine Calpol and Infant Ibuprofen in alternate doses, and the doses can be closer together than if you give calpol alone.

ie: 12.00 - Calpol, 3.00 Ibuprofen, 6.00 Calpol, 9.00 Ibuprofen etc.

(The timings are approximate so make sure you read the label on your bottles correctly).

Calpol stabilises a temp, ibuprofen(nurofen) brings it down

38.5 is not so high I wouldn't worry too much .. I don't medicate until in the 39's

maybe remove a blanket if you want

you can check on her later but really don't worry
