My dad went for his yearly check
He is 81
They took his blood and blood pressure
His blood pressure was high but always is and then they give him the at home monitor and it's normal
He gets nervous and it goes sky high.
Anyway he had a blood test and never heard anything back.
He went for his blood pressure to be took again and the nurse said his blood was all fine and only thing was his kidney was higher than last year but lower than average (nobody mentioned it last year )
Anyway it's got me worried-but if he hadn't of went to docs he would be none the wiser
Anyway they said just drop a water sample in as you haven't dropped one in for a few years.
My dad is fit as a fiddle and goes on walks etc
Doesn't look his age
No health conditions but now I'm terrified something is wrong
Can anyone put my mind at ease
How can it be higher than last year ?
Does it change ?

Yes, kidney function usually gets less as you age (aging kidneys don't always work as well as young ones!). It's pretty much normal to an extent; if it goes beyond that extent, the surgery will probably want to do extra blood tests, keep a closer eye on his blood pressure, and maybe tweak any tablets he's on. (Sustained high blood pressure over long periods of time can affect your kidneys)

If the surgery aren't worried about your dad's readings, then neither should you be. I'd suggest he keep active, drink enough not to get dehydrated, avoid ibuprofen (terrible stuff for kidneys) and carry on enjoying life!
