Anal skin tag removal

I'm so embarrassed about my skin tag and I think about it every day- just want it gone!

I want to get it removed, has anyone done it before and can recommend anywhere? I'm in Manchester.

Hi, did you get them sorted ? I went to the doctor and have been waiting over a year but they will remove them! Just not sure I want to go through with the procedure. I posted today about it, just saw yours and thought I’d reply !

I had one removed on my labia last year. It was huge it was like a drained grape lol when I went for a smear the nurse referred me for it removed and I think I waited about 2 years. The actual procedure was fine, I had a local anaesthetic and they sliced it off and then cauterised the area. Once the anaesthetic wore off it stung a lot but glad I had it done. The pain lasted a few days on and off as it was in a sensitive area anyway.

Hi @Turmeric1986 Have you had your surgery yet? If so, how was it?

Turmeric1986 · 15/12/2025 15:46

Hi yes I did, the actually procedure was fine, the recovery was definitely painful at times probably took a couple of weeks sometimes extreme pain but I would say still manageable.
Although ithey couldn’t remove all of it so I still have some issue and pretty sure I have some more piles returning. It’s better than it was, but not perfect by any means.

Thanks so much for replying to me. I’m glad yours went fairly smoothly and is an improvement (even if not perfect).

You’ve really put my mind at ease. When I first saw a colorectal specialist, I was told it would be at least 6 weeks of excruciating pain and that the tag would likely come back. That was enough to scare me off, I agreed to be discharged and didn’t re-refer myself until 18 months later (and even then I was unsure). But 2 weeks sounds a lot more manageable, and I’ll be pleased even if they can’t fix it completely, as long as it’s better than it is now as it always catches and bleeds.

I’m glad I could help, I think it’s worth doing as nothing else will improve the situation and I had put up with mine for years! The recovery can be hard and obviously different for everyone but I still think it’s manageable and I would advise salt baths after every bowel movement as that’s when the pain hits.

There was definitely more time worrying about it beforehand than the actual length of the healing process for me!
Although in terms of pain it’s probably healthy to expect the worse and hope for the best in this situation.

Yeah, I will try to keep my expectations realistic and expect a lot of pain. To be honest, it was more the length of recovery that was scaring me. Obviously, being in severe pain is never ideal, but 2 weeks of severe pain is, of course, a lot more manageable than 6! Being told that it would likely come back after as well was a big put-off, but from what I’ve seen on here, that happens less often than I thought.
