Do NHS fix deviated septum's? I snore because of it and have slight sleep apnea. I can hardly breath from my left nostril.

Mine was fixed by the NHS, I needed surgery for a 'nasal polyp' (that turned out to be a schwannoma, a tumour) so it was done at the same time. I can't remember if it would've been fixed as a stand alone diagnosis though sorry. Have you seen ENT about it?

I contacted gp again after I noticed I couldn't breath through one nostril. She put referral to nose doctor.

Name change here.
I finally saw ENT and he said I would get a surgery. I tried to ask him how long amis the queue but he couldn't say.

I have very similar symptoms to you, was referred to the ENT about 10 yrs ago, they were happy to operate, I declined at the time as the operation hadn't worked for a family member, but wish I'd gone ahead with it now, so I will need re-referring.

My BIL had an op for a deviated septum. He still snores.

Hope you get sorted soon, let us know how it went.

I'm still waiting 18 months on for what a urgent referral, deviated septum, constant sinus pain and my nose is now bending across my face, can't breath through it at all.
My nose got fucked as I smashed my face on the dash of a car when we got hit I was 6 (days before seatbelts!)

poignant · 14/02/2024 19:34

@feellikeanalien Yes the ENT said that might happen.

I had this procedure about 40 years ago on the NHS, which I know may have changed now, but it was due to a polyp and blocked sinuses on one side. Since the operation I have had no recurrence and I’m very happy with it. I get an occasional sinus infection after a cold like many people do but no snoring and my nose is straight. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

My son had his deviated septum fixed n the NHS last year. It has made a huge difference to him . He can smell properly, he is not snotty all the time, can breathe quietly etc
His was ' grossly deviated ' in the words of the surgeon. All just genetic rather than through an accident.

@Ezzee That's a long time waiting for appointment. NHS app said that my app would have been in march in their waiting time section.

I've recently had an operation for a deviated septum on the NHS. The GP warned me it could be a long wait when he made the initial referral, and I had the initial appointment at the hospital ENT clinic around 7 months after that. They couldn't tell me how long the wait after that would be, but it was actually only two months, much to my surprise. It was all done as day surgery but with a general anaesthetic.

I'm still in the recovery stage so am still crossing fingers that it's worked.
