Time for urgent referral?

Hi - have found a lump in my boob - dr has sent me for urgent referral (apparently at the moment there is normal referral, urgent, and urgent suspected cancer).

So I'm in the middle for what he thought when referring me. I'm in Scotland - wondered if anyone knows likely time frame for getting the appt through?

Trying to stay rational and not panic but it's hard to not think about and be worried. Going on first abroad holiday since 2019 in the Oct hols and so this is potentially a spanner.

Posting just to see if anyone knows approx wait times if you've had a referral recently

I’m fairly certain it is 2 weeks

HappyGoLuckyLuLu · 24/09/2023 10:30

I know it's supposed to be two weeks but I don't think it is that in reality - was hoping some MNers might have some recent experience- I'll update when I get my appt thru

I'm in Glasgow. My appointment was exactly 2 weeks after I spoke to my GP. That was yesterday, I got all the tests done (mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy) in a 2 hour window and am going back a week on Thursday for my results. By then they said they'd have a plan for my treatment which will definitely involve surgery.

I hope you get such speedy and efficient service wherever you are!

I was seen last year in London and I think the wait was 2/3 weeks. By the time I had the appointment, the lump I'd felt had gone! I had mammogram and ultrasound on the same day. They would have biopsied there also- IF it had been needed. Take a book, because I had a bit of waiting around. I would 'assume' Scotland has the 2 week timeline also, but not sure. Best of luck.

This year, wait time was within two weeks for urgent 2 week pathway for someone close to me.

There are usually options for getting private MRIs done or seeing private specialists (with personal loans available).

Lots of options to get seen soon. Good luck

Thank you for replies & @weegiemum I really hope treatment is going as well as it can for you Flowers

I'm Tayside so will see if it's as quick here 🤞

I think it can vary depending on your hospital trust tbf. I'm in England, and found a lump in August. Got a weekend GP appointment on a Sunday morning who was able to send the referral. I was called by our hospital Breast unit at 10am on Monday morning and seen in clinic on the Thursday. Thankfully all clear. I know that was exceptional service. NHS at it's very best.

Hope you get your appointment goes well, OP
