Realy worried about dd's feet/walking

just got back from clarks with dd2.

The woman that fitted her dd2's shoes told me i should take her to the GP's as dd turns her feet in when she walks. I always thought it was something that would correct itself. When she's barefoot it does'nt seem to efect her but when she has shoes on she almost trips over her own feet

Should i be taking her to the GP?

She's 2 next week.

I had this when I was little my mom called it pidgeon toed

I just had to have proper fitting shoes till I was 13 and I grew out of it

Maybe you should go to the GP or HV and mention it so they can check on her hips

luciemule · 05/03/2008 11:07

I'd mention it as it can effect hips and knees later too.

dd has this and still does a bit at 6, left more so. She was assessed by an orthopaedic dr at 4 who could find no real physical cause (checked hip and feet) and it was less pronounced than the stage at whcih intervention is required (around 15o iirc)so left it. Has become less so over time.

If shoes make it worse they aren't suitable for her and you need to try different styles. Startrite work better than Calrsk for dd and at that age a low lace up ankle boot. Wellies and trainers are worse.

Hi Marne
Intoeing is really common in this age group and most are completely normal with no underlying problems, and most do resolve themselves as the child grows. As it has been raised though and you have some concerns ask your gp to refer you to a paeds physio who will be able to assess your DD and hopefully reassure you that nothing else is wrong. I regularly see many 'normal' children with intoeing and funny feet who have been 'diagnosed' by well meaning but frankly inexperienced and tactless shoe shop assistants - apologies to any out there on mumsnet
