3 yo with wrist ganglion - what to do?

My DS has just been diagnosed with a wrist ganglion. He said he fell over and that was when it happened. It only hurts when it is pressed, it looks a bit bruised but doesn't seem to be causing him any trouble. Apparently these are quite rare in children (it is over 1cm lump), has anyone else had experience with these and what did you do?
Thanks

I have one, but it's on my hand, which I've had for nearly 28 years now. Developed after writing for my O-levels. Mine is quite large. I was advised by my GP to leave it alone, unless it got much larger. It didn't. They can be surgically removed, however, they do have a tendency to come back. A friend of mine has had one removed nearly 5 times If it's not bothering him or painful i would leave it alone.

Thanks Alipiggie. I guess unless it is bothering him I will leave it alone. It just looks horrible seeing a big bulge on a skinny little lovely arm.

My ds2 (9)has a lump on his elbow, which is probably a cyst and possibly a ganglion. I've had it checked out to make sure it's nothing serious.

The doc said 'leave it unless its bothering him'. And ds2 doesn't want to get it removed. So it is staying. But I don't like to see it, and also I ask myself why it has come.

So I understand how you feel.

they're not rare in children, they're pretty common. Most will go away of their own accord. If removed surgically, there is a 50% chance they will come back.

Leave well alone unless really interfering with his life!

I had one of these as a child.. it just eventually went away by itself.

The big nuisance is, every time I go to hold his hand I always seem to grab that wrist - which obviously hurts him. Sods law though, as soon as you have a sore spot people always seem to poke, prod or grab you there!
