Migraine with aura without pain

I’ve had these migraines infrequently for years - zig zags in my vision which worsen until areas of vision disappear, I usually can’t see half of the room. It lasts about 30 mins and I can have a mild headache after but feel really tired and shaky.

In the 2 days I’ve had two which is very unusual for me, I was wondering if anyone had experience of these worsening linked to perimenopause maybe?

@BillStickersIsInnocent yes, I’m sure there’s something going on with my glasses too - perhaps the nose rests have bent- which means my brain is slightly confused by looking through a part of the lenses which is a bit ‘off’!

I spoke to my optician when I first had one in my 50s and he said it wasn't anything to worry about.

Google confirms this.

I get normal migraine headaches too, about one a month, at roughly the same time each month but I prefer these as they pass and don't hurt!

The others are hormone related but less painful than when I had periods. I was hoping they would disappear after the menopause though.

I started having these around the age of 40. The first time it happened I thought I was having a stroke! Now I get them once or twice a year and I think mine are definitely stress related

I used to get these alot (always hormone related) .. now get them maybe once a year only since I started taking magnesium. If you research it you will see it can almost or completely cure them. I ran out of magnesium a while back and got 3 in a row, couldn't believe the difference.

When I got them, I would get the blurred vision, then a headache and vomiting, normally feeling off for the full day after... pink migraleve if taken right away when vision starts then a dark room for an hour can stop it in its tracks.

I get these and they started a couple of years ago. I presume they are connected to perimenopause. I was prescribed propanalol daily to reduce them and they have but I still get a couple per month.

Recently I have tried cutting out sugar and processed foods. I haven't had one yet this month and I'm hoping it helps.

Like you the migraine is mainly aura with a mild headache but makes me very tired that day and I feel spaced out the next day or two. They do disturb my daily life when I have one.

I only get them when pregnant so I think it’s definitely hormone related.

Roselilly36 · 23/09/2023 10:57

I get these frequently, definitely got worse due to being menopausal, I can have 4/5 attacks a day, it’s really horrible.

Yes I get these. The zig zags and general vision disturbances. If I take paracetamol and ibruprofen asap then usually the pain isn’t too bad at all. If I don’t take the meds quickly then the headache and nausea is awful.

Caffeine and sugar seems to help.

Ive not completely identified the causes but I think it’s a combination of low blood sugar, lack of sleep, tiredness, dehydration and stress. And definitely hormones make a massive difference.

Yes I've had this since childhood
Had to come off the combined pill due to them but strangely didn't get any when pregnant
Im 40 now and barely get any yet last year got 2 in one day then nothing since
Once got one which preceded a thunder storm and it was like I could feel the pressure in the air
I can go years without getting one now then maybe get a few in a few days running, totally random

Worddance · 23/09/2023 11:26

I get these, sometimes daily. Haven't had one for a couple of weeks. I think it's linked to stress but perimenopause is a possibility.
