High platelets in blood - I’m worried

Two years ago I saw my GP as I was at the end of my tether with right sided discomfort, burping, digestive issues, loose stools and yellow / tan poo.
Bloods taken, ultrasound of gallbladder, FIT test All clear, told it was IBS.
I still have the same issue now except my periods are now heavy. Still the right sided discomfort and pain - I genuinely don’t know if it’s bowel related or ovarian.
Bloods taken again now and on returning to see GP she has said that my platelets are high (around 465) and in fact they were also that level 2 years ago.
Im annoyed that it wasnt flagged up 2 years ago and I was sent on my way. Google says that it could be caused by cancer so why has this been ignored!
I have to have the bloods repeated in a month but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are high again.
Has anyone had experiences of high platelets and what was the cause? I’m worried that I’ve got bowel cancer and it’s been missed.

Thats annoying that they’ve not managed to get to the bottom of your symptoms yet.
I think they’ll see whether the high platelets are a transient thing or not - although but frustrating you have to wait a month. Are they redoing the ultrasound? I assume it also covered liver, kidneys, spleen etc?
It can be high in response to something or it can be high as part of blood production. Hope you get some answers soon.
If it’s still high on retest and there’s no other explanation then make sure you push for referral to a haematologist.

Hi, I have high platelets, climbing for last year or so, I think now just over 600 but GP not too concerned and says we'll keep an eye on it. I've just had a nasty chest infection which can elevate them. However, from what I understand it's not really that high and for cancer it would be in the 1000s?
