My hands are dry as anything and really cracking. Anything I put on them stings like mad and doesn't seem to help. Is there a really good thing I can buy at Boots tomorrow when we go into town?

I am avoiding the washing up and there is a crack by my thumbnail which is agony.

Thankyou

Aveeno cream is very good - it is made from oats iirc. It costs about seven quid a tube I think.

colditz · 04/03/2008 18:03

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/03/2008 18:03

do you have a body shop near you? their hemp hand cream is the best thing for cracked dry hands ever!

SoupDragon · 04/03/2008 18:05

I was going to suggest Waitrose Bottom Butter (baby aisle!) but they don't sell it in Boots unfortunately!

FloraPosteschild · 04/03/2008 18:05

Thanks for the quick answers.
I've tried cocoa butter, it really hurts - I think anyting with perfume in it hurts as far as I can tell.

Neutrogena might be good as I think it is unscented?

I'll look at the Aveeno as well.

TDWP/Colditz, have you tried it yourself? Does it work?

I get sore cracked hands from excema and most things are useless! I use 1% Hydrocortisone ointment from boots to treat the excema (it may be worth talking to the Pharmacist as you may have dermatitus from washing your hands too often, if so try Hydrocortisone as well). Then I use Aqueous Cream and or Doublebase, you can definately buy Aqueous cream at Boots. You can also use both as a kind of soap substitute for hand washing.

In the mean time slather your hands in vaseline and put on a pair of cotton gloves if you can. This will soften the skin so it won't crack.

neutrigina hand cream was great when i had dermatitus [probbaly spelt wrong]

and also used to wear cotton gloves at night with aqueous cream on or zinc and castor oil

AbbeyA · 04/03/2008 18:23

I find E45 best.

My sister had bad eczema and used to have aqueous, so I will try and get some tomorrow...I think it is too much washing (anxiety) and the cold weather.

I'll check out all the suggestions, will come home with a cupboard full of stuff at this rate! So glad I asked on here, it's been driving me mad for years
