Supplements for thinning hair and brittle nails

I'm 52 and on Oestrogen patches since a hysterectomy 3 years ago. Over last while I've noticed my hair is getting v thin and I'm losing a lot when washing it. I always had thick hair so am unused to my thinning mane! Also my nails are v brittle and my eyelashes have thined considerably. Can anybody recommend a good supplement to increase hair/nail growth? I have chronic pain so take painkillers and also Warfarin for a blood clotting issue which limits certain supplements that I can take.

My GP advised a good all round multivitamin with iron and I also take an additional biotin supplement to help with thinning/breaking/shedding hair.

It may be unrelated, but I've been on collagen for a few months and it's definitely made a difference to my hair and skin. (52, perimenopause)
I use Ancient and Brave marine collagen and just put a spoon of it in my coffee every morning.
There's usually discount codes if you look at their IG or tiktok.

I’ve been curious about collagen because I’ve seen a few women in here saying it helps their hair but I’m confused because hair isn’t made from collagen until skin. Does anyone know why it would help?

I take a multitude of supplements, however it was my low iron levels that I think caused hair loss. I'm now prescribed 600mg per day of Ferrous Sulphate and I also take OTC Folic acid. I take a Biotin gummy, as well for my hair. My hair and general health is much better. So I'd say always check your iron levels.

That's interesting about Collogen. Was thinking about that but thought it was more for skin. Thankfully my skin is not bad, but am careful about sun, moisturiser etc. There seems to be so many various types of supplements out there it is mind boggling! I'll look up the recommendations given here....thank you🙂. Has anyone had any luck with thickening shampoos/ treatments or is it better to go from inside out?

Hi @AnSionnachGlic
Eating seeds, almonds, cashew nuts, walnuts, really helps with hair. My midwife said she only ever washes her hair once a week which helps too. Also, try applying shampoo to dry hair then wash out with water. I also take an iron supplement xx

I’ve found good result with Nioxin shampoo and conditioner

I honestly don't know the science, but it was recommended to me and although my diet hasn't changed, my appearance certainly has.
