Lower Back Pain/Sciatica....would a kneeler chair help?

I've been thinking of getting a chair like this as I've heard good things about them for helping with backache.

I have problems with my sacro-iliac joint for five years which has gotten worse since I had my DD 9mo ago. I'm pregnant again and want to do all I can to help thing along.

I've recentl been suffering from a trapped nerve as well, and have pain all down my leg as a result.

Would this type of chaoir help or am I better off saving my money and having a few trips to see an osteopath?

TIA

Looks like it would help.

I used to have sciatica and, when it was really bad, I was told to always carry a small cylindrical shaped cushion with me (very firm) and put it against my lower back whenever I sat down, especially in the car. This was to always make the back arch inwards. It really helped.

Must admit, Osteopath helped more but some of the manipulating hurt!

Hope it is better soon. Mine seems to have gone for good (touches wood, nervously).

I think you might be better off with some kind of therapy rather than just a new chair, unless you are sure your back problems are all down to bad posture when you're sitting down. I did a course of Alexande technique lessons and found them v helpful (says she hunched over a laptop ) or osteopathy is supposed to be good as well. Or pilates if you like that kind of thing.

thanks stirlingmum

I do try to keep my posture good, but it is soo easy to slump. I've sat on one fo those chairs before and from what I remember they encourage you to sit properly.

I think I'll get one, and see an osteopath, although I'm not sure how much manipulation they will do on a pregnant woman.

I had this when pg and yoga was really helpful.

I've just started doing pilates, and I think it does help.

Have you tried MBT footwear? I find them really helpful for achy back/legs.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/03/2008 20:08

Oh, I've seen those shoes before. Can you just buy them, or do you need to have an assessment of your problem/needs? and are they expensive?

You just buy them, but they are only sold at certain shoe shops and the salesperson will measure your feet and find you the right size. They'll also make sure you walk correctly in them. They are expensive - I have the black lace-ups and they were £135. But I bought them before Christmas and wear them all Friday, Saturday and Sunday every weekend and they don't yet show any sign of wear, so I think they're pretty hardwearing.

I had one of those chairs once and it didn't do my knees any favours [waves at Daisy]

thanks bluestocking. Not sure I can stretch to that though

Maybe not then Sputnik, as my knee gives me grief as well. I'm a bloody wreck now, lord knows what I'll be like after I've had this baby
