absorption issues? Possibly gluten related?

Throwncrumbs · 19/09/2023 06:20

Mine was low, can’t find a reason why, had an iron infusion, now on a watch and see for the foreseeable future.

Witchbitch20 · 19/09/2023 06:20

Did you have your B12 levels tested at the same time?

They are linked. If you Google vitamin B deficiency you’ll find lots of information on this.

Crumpetdisappointment · 19/09/2023 06:22

i will check out B12
i think others were low, that were related

Absorption issues? My son has CMPA and was horribly anaemic despite an excellent diet. We removed all dairy and allowed his gut to heal and he’s so much better.

i donate blood so it can't be that bad as i am tested finger prick every time

I’d say if nothing else has changed and your Hgb etc levels would have normally recovered after donating blood but this time they haven’t then that’s worth some further investigation to understand what is going on.

VeloVixen · 19/09/2023 07:29

coeliac disease?

ThisWormHasTurned · 19/09/2023 07:41

Actually that’s not necessarily true. The finger prick tests your haemoglobin. It’s possible to have a normal haemoglobin and low ferritin. My haemoglobin is usually fine but my ferritin drops (presumed to be caused by endometriosis in my case) and I feel like crap!
it’s worth discussing causes with your GP - gastrointestinal issues are the most common causes of anaemia so they may want to rule things out. I’d advise against giving blood until this is treated.

Crumpetdisappointment · 19/09/2023 07:42

thanks very much, just checking coeliac disease and i dont think i want an endoscopy!
i will call GP
thanks

You’d have a blood test first and only be referred for an endoscopy if that was raised. So worth doing the blood test

Cappuccinfortwo · 22/09/2023 12:43

It's very hard to get doctors to take low ferritin seriously ime.

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/10/2023 19:06

just update that i have had a call back request to see GP.
curiously
