Can you tell me about type 2 diabetes? (Specifically, how to avoid it?)

During my last pregnancy, I developed gestational diabetes. The doctor told me that this gives me a 50% chance of developing type 2 later in life. I asked her what I should do to avoid this and she said 'don't get fat'.

Whilst I'm sure this is partly true, it feels incomplete! What should I be doing with my diet/exercise/anything else I need to know?

Any knowledgeable advice gratefully received!

There is some evidence emerging that having covid can increase your risk of developing diabetes. So if there are reasonable steps you can take to reduce your chance of catching covid, they will be worth doing. Things like improving ventilation where you can, FFP2 masks (especially in health settings and on public transport), using an anti-viral nasal spray etc. Good luck I hope you stay well. The relationship between COVID-19 and diabetes

Diabetes and COVID-19 may affect each other. People with diabetes, especially uncontrolled diabetes, have a higher risk of COVID-19. Also, COVID-19 may increase the risk of new or worsening diabetes.

Get a referral to the national diabetes prevention programme if you're in England :)
