Ate probably gone potatoes

On Friday I bought a bag of already peeled potatoes in Tescos , they looked nice and yellow, I didn’t noticed they expire on Sat ( yesterday).
I cooked them today ( boiled and roasted in the oven)
They tasted a bit funny but I thought it’s just my mouth.
However now I feel sick, like really nauseous.
Would the potatoes if boiled and roasted still make me ill?

No.

dementedpixie · 17/09/2023 14:57

I have eaten potatoes well past their use by date as they last for ages. It's unlikely that 1 day over potatoes would make you ill especially if they've been double cooked.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/09/2023 14:57

Very, very unlikely imo. Did you notice the expiry date before or after you started feeling sick?

toomuchfaster · 17/09/2023 14:58

Were they black? Mouldy? Smelly? Squishy? If no, then they were fine.

Strangerfeeling · 17/09/2023 15:02

They looked absolutely fine, otherwise I would not use them.
Nice healthy potatoes, although one of the had tiny greenish tint, which I cut off.
I boiled them for about 25mins and then roasted for another 30 mins.
We all ate them, at the moments I just feel I want to puke for last 30 mins.
I ate them about 1-1.30 pm.

Trust me , you’d know if you ate an off potato, because you’d be retching at the smell before you even put it in your mouth.

Off potatoes are squishy and soft and smell like hell on earth. They are soooo bad. Absolutely times one thousand percent the potatoes you ate were in no way off.

My thoughts are that you may have some health anxiety, which resonates with me too. Or the start of a virus even, if you feel nauseous.

Take it easy, feel better and don’t worry- it’s not the potatoes!

Changingplace · 17/09/2023 15:10

I’ve never looked at a use by date on potatoes in my life, if they were off they’d be squishy/black/mouldy, you’d know immediately.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/09/2023 15:20

Potatoes that are actually off smell like the devil's arse. There's no way you could eat them.

Strangerfeeling · 17/09/2023 15:21

@NowWhattt defo not anxiety.
It's just it came on so suddenly and I remembered the potatoes tasted to me a bit odd, not all of them, but some of them.
Perhaps my stomach is bit funny since yesterday.
Ate some pork minced balls kebabs on a stick( again from tescos, nothing against them anyway lol) these tasted really yummy and were well cooked however I started feeling a bit off and heavy and bloated after eating them but felt OK in the morning, so thought nothing of it.
I will see how I feel.

As a nurse I can tell you that you will most probably be fine. As long as they are not green as that will give you a bad tummy.

ohyesohyesoh · 17/09/2023 15:24

I never keep pots in the bag they came in, so would have no idea about use before dates etc.
sure you will be totally fine

WonderingWanda · 17/09/2023 15:29

I have never consulted a use by date for a vegetable in my life. Veg is no good if it has gone soft, slime, mouldy, a different colour or smells bad. I have never heard of a potato making someone ill before.

Strangerfeeling · 17/09/2023 19:20

I still feel sick and very cold, like shivering.
Took a covid test, negative.
When i had Covid last year, the symptoms were just feeling nauseous nonstop, like morning sickness as feeling like this nauseous on and off since yesterday evening, I just thought maybe it's covid.
Everyone else ate the same food and are ok.
