DS1 and DS4 are spotastic this morning, a gift from DS2 who had it at half term. Just DS3 to go, he is infuriatingly bouncy and healthy, he must get the Pox and then we are done.

My 2 DC have both just had it....and now both have nasty temperatures and colds...it rains then it pours! - have you tried porridge oats in a sock in the bath water.....it saved my sanity when DD looked like she would scratch her skin off.

MehgaLegs · 04/03/2008 09:27

We did bicarb in the bath with DS2 and it was very soothing. DS4 has a nasty patch of eczema so the porridge migh do that good too. They are ok at the min. Just quiet and spotty, have lined up the Calpol, Piriton, Calamine with Glycerine and the rhus.tox. (I should create a special chicken pox tool belt to keep all the creams and potions to hand)

rhus.tox ? did I miss something in my C/Pox pack?

MehgaLegs · 04/03/2008 09:33

It's a homeopathic remedy, my friend recommended it. It really seemed to help. Of the 6 children in DS2's class to get chicken pox he was first to recover and he was less itchy.

Hurrah - the full whammy - DS3 has come home spotty. Feel bad as have now probably passed on to Reception class but tthe head said send him in.

MehgaLegs · 05/03/2008 10:50

How spotty can a child be? DS1 has them on the rims of his eyes DS4 didn't go to sleep until 4am - I watched Shrek with him from 2am onwards in a bid to distract him from the itching, all my potions seem to have failed.

DS3 is spotty but lively, he's day behind though.

It's bloody horrible isn't it?

I really feel for you, rims of the eyes sounds so horrid

Can't suggest anything that you haven't already tried apart from a bit of chocolate for everybody when it all gets too scratchy and itchy

singyswife · 05/03/2008 13:10

Hi, my dd1 was terribly ill with the chicken pox, but had very little spots. My DD2 on the other hand had spots everwhere, I mean everywhere, Her bits, In her Mouth, On her eyes and she was neither up nor down with them. It is horrible but I wouldnt want to be an adult and have them. I gave my kids pitiron and lots of cool baths.

PeatBog · 06/03/2008 07:44

oh bum, dd2 has spots and there are two more dds to go ... I have made a shopping list of meds, so thank you all for that.

MehgaLegs · 06/03/2008 08:59

Poor DS4 (and poor us too actually) Another night of very little sleep and he is so itchy. DS1 and DS3 were restless but soothed with Calpol and Piriton, with DS4 nothing seems to work . He has so many spots, including some on his willy now which sting when he wees. The spots are work on top of his eczema. Have just read that Zovirax can be given, especially tp those with eczema but only in forst 24 hrs of rash appearing - bum!

DH did night duty with DS4 whilst I flitted about the landing dosing out Calpol. I hope this is the worst of it now and he'll start getting better today. His spots are starting to scab so think that's a good sign.

tea tree antiseptic cream on the spots - absolutely BRILLIANT!

I have it myself a couple of years ago and was given this by a friend, have used it on both of mine and recommended it to all my mates who's kids had it too

nelsons i think or boots own

wee souls, hope they all feel better soon

MehgaLegs · 06/03/2008 09:14

Was thinking about tea tree today but wondered if it would sting. I haven't dared put any creams on DS4 as his eczema flares up with so many things thought it would be just awful if he had a reaction on top of the pox.

Mums coming over later and I am off to the chemist for more supplies.

Fortunately DS3 seems to have DS2's mild version and is quite chipper

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 06/03/2008 09:16

am sure it was the nelson's one I used, wa brilliant and didn't sting at all - went through tubes of it both on myself and dd1 when she got them. I have terrible skin too - worth a try if nothing else working!

PeatBog · 06/03/2008 10:14

bum again, have just got back from chemist and should've got tea tree cream

dd2 has no fever (yet) but is Not Herself. Sitting quietly on sofa (usually jumping off, getting back on, jumping off etc etc) watching Nemo.

And now in a completely selfish way I'm worried that all 3 will get it over the next few days and we'll have to cancel our first w/end away without kids for 18 months

dizzydixies · 06/03/2008 10:18

oh peatbog its as if they know isn't it
at least if they do all get it then thats its over with but am sorry if you don't get your wkend away

PeatBog · 06/03/2008 10:28

yes, they overheard my phone conversation with Mum organising the weekend (6 months ago so she could fit it into her diary ), then they waited

patiently

for the week before we go

MehgaLegs · 06/03/2008 10:32

Peatbog - that is frustrating. With a bit of luck your other two won't get it until two weeks time. DS2 had it at half term, as did several others in his class so guess it came from a party they had all been to. My opther three got it exactly two weeks later so if only your dd has been exposed the other two might be ok for a bit, did that make sense.

PeatBog · 06/03/2008 10:48

Thanks Mehgalegs, let's hope that's how it goes. Just spoke to my Mum, and she's completely unfazed, so we might just go anyway

PeatBog · 07/03/2008 17:06

Erm, is it normal for them to get most of the spots on their scalp? It's like running yr fingers over a huge golf ball

but with the bumps going out, obviously

dizzydixies · 07/03/2008 21:54

yes bless them, scalp, fingernails, inbetween toes, in the bottom and fanjo

PeatBog · 08/03/2008 14:07

ooch, yes, now on fanjo
