Possible tiny drop of Acetone on/into a drinking glass

Good morning everyone, I hope you're all well. I have a question I was hoping some of you could help me answer, please? 🙏🏼

So long story short.. I have anxiety okay and I was just cleaning my smartwatch strap with acetone on a cotton wool pad (as it gets rid of the nasty smell & sweat) on it after playing football. Now in my wisdom I thought I'd squirt the tiniest littlest of bits onto the watch strap. I also had a drinking glass close-by, I don't think I got any in or on the glass (and it has a vinegar type top) with a tiny hole, so you only get little drops come at a time, but my anxiety has got me second guessing myself. I've thoroughly rinsed the glass out using lots of hot water and washing up liquid.

So my question is.. Is the glass safe to use after thoroughly cleaning & rinsing it or would you advice against using it again? 🤔

Like I say, I don't think I caught any in the glass but I just want to be on the safe side by asking you wise & wonderful people.

I would really appreciate any helpful & useful responses to help put my mind at ease.

Thank you in advance 🙏🏼 😊

If there was a sticker on the glass I would use something like acetone to get the residual sticky stuff off and would then just wash it up and use it

CatsOnTheChair · 15/09/2023 06:18

Acetone is highly solvable in water, and very volatile.

What you have done is more than enough to clean the glass to use it again.

MidnightOnceMore · 15/09/2023 06:21

My view is that washing a glass thoroughly removes contaminants because glass doesn't absorb things.

Is your anxiety helped by understanding things more? It might help to read about acetone.

PeanutAndBanana · 15/09/2023 06:25

Would it help to think about the fact that glass is widely used in labs because it is easily cleaned and chemicals can be washed off it very quickly and effectively? Acetone in small quantities is very unlikely to do you any harm (if we are talking a drop or two) so if you didn't clean the glass it would also be ok - most of it would evaporate.
If I were you, I'd wash the glass with soapy hot water, dry it and put it in the cupboard. I promise it will be fine.

I understood what you meant by it being highly soluble in water part, but I'm not quite sure about being volatile bit though 🙈 Sorry ✋🏼 😋 LOL!

So would you comfortably use the glass then without the worry of anything happening as a result?

Thank you for taking the time to read & reply btw and so promptly as well to my question. I really appreciate it 😊

Yes washing the glass thoroughly will make the glass safe to use.

I use acetone based nail polish remover and have forgotten to wash my hands in the past and thrn put my fingers in my mouth...probably eating biscuits. Nothing bad happened.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2023 06:43

Have you ever had gel nails removed? That's acetone.

RedDogRobinHood · 15/09/2023 06:44

Thank you for reading & replying to my post and so promptly too. I really appreciate it 🙏🏼

It's not so much that I would say, but the fact that I just second guess myself on certain things. I find reassurance from other people a big help. Just through either asking a quick question or advice on certain things helps to alleviate my anxiety.

I did have a quick look on Google but it didn't answer my specific concern. So I wanted to check & clarify that's all. Thank you again for taking the time to reply 😊

You will have washed away all traces of acetone. The glass is safe to use.

RedDogRobinHood · 15/09/2023 06:53

1000% yes it would help to think and know that.

Yeah I washed it (2 or 3 times) very thoroughly with very hot hot water and Fairy Liquid just to be on the safe side. I've left it on a bar mat to dry naturally.

Your message has massively (along with everyone else's thus far) has helped to reassure me and also put my mind at ease.

Thank you ever so much 🙏🏼 😊 I really appreciate you taking the time to read & reply to post.

I'm not quite sure to make of this response if I'm totally honest 🤔 🤷🏻‍♂️ LOL. But from what other people have said in response so far, it seems safe enough to use the glass again.
