Stutter/head injury

A few months ago I banged my head exceedingly hard (I can't remember this).
The following few days, I had clear fluid dripping from my nose, almost like water.
A couple of months after this, I was brushing my hair and noticed a fair sized dent on the top of my head (approximately the size of a 50p coin)

Over the last few months (so, about 6 months after initial head bump), I have started struggling with speech. It started with not being able to remember the odd word, jumbling up words, having to restart sentences progressing to a full on stutter over the last 3/4 weeks. Its incredibly frustrating but also quite concerning. I stutter over every other word I try to say and sometimes can't even get the word out.

I am planning on seeing a GP next week but in the mean time, are there any health professionals here who might have some idea what's going on?

As an aside, I had 2 mini strokes about 17 years ago..kinda worried I've had another without realising!

Hmm, I wonder if you need to go to A&E, you certainly need to be seen quickly.

Have you not seen a medical professional at all? "Planning on seeing a GP next week" appears to be a serious underreaction.

Did you not go to the hospital when you had amnesia about the head injury and the fluid?

jannier · 09/09/2023 19:51

Jesus just read the full post why are you not calling 111 at least?

ScoobyDoNot · 09/09/2023 20:48

I admit it comes across as if I have a very blasé attitude. I have a severe phobia of doctors & hospitals and suffer with ptsd & panic attacks when in a medical setting. I am otherwise fit and healthy (physically at least), I can't say I was in any great hurry to be seen.

I don't need a&e or 111. I've got this far so I'm pretty sure another couple of days will be fine.

I have accepted that I do need to see a Dr. I was just wondering if there were any gps about who might give me an idea of what I'd be looking at. The dented part of my skull is slightly softer than the rest so it's very apparent there was trauma.
I wasn't aware how bad I'd hit it (or that I even had!)

I think you should go for urgent care. Your GP will have to refer you anyway.

I understand your phobia but is it at all possible for you to get checked at hospital?

Take care Flowers
