Anyone awake… had a big operation today

Hello all,

Is anyone up? Had a big operation yesterday afternoon. I am really hurting and so scared to move. Have a massive sore throat where the tube was in my throat, the compression stockings are making me sweat and I need a wee.. but need to wake up my husband to even attempt the massive task of getting up and going. It’s going to hurt so much.
The morphine has worn off so I took the given strong painkillers around midnight.

I am surprised why they make you go home so soon after surgery although at one point they were going to admit me earlier but then my stats got better. Saying that, I’m not complaining ( would much rather be in my own bed at home).

A handhold would be nice please if anyone is around ..

Sorry to hear your in pain op, don’t feel bad waking your husband as I would imagine they let you home with the understanding you had support, especially the first night which is often the worst! The best thing you can do is prioritise yourself till you are recovered!

I'm sorry you're in so much pain have you taken everything in terms of painkillers that you can? I hope the operation was successful and it's a good sign you've been allowed to come home. Agree with previous poster don't feel bad waking your husband up especially as its the first night

Thank you so much. I am
maxed out on the painkillers. Pain feels worse and I will likely wake the house up yelping ( children asleep ) but I have to wake him now.
Yes, husband has instructions both verbally and written and the nurses are going to call me tomorrow to check in.

My goodness our NHS staff are simply wonderful- they could not have been any more kinder to me today ❤️

@NowWhattt hello! Hope you're feeling better soon!

I had a C section a few weeks ago and the compression socks made me sweaty also! Have you been given fragmin? (The leg/tummy injections to help prevent blood clots?)

The first few days after any operation is painful as hell but it will calm down for you!

Do you have an electric fan? Might help at the bottom of the bed on your legs!

Make sure you're spoilt rotten by DH and have plenty of lolly ice/ice pops etc for your recovery, especially if you need to hydrate but don't want to be up peeing all the time!

Sending a big love 💐hope you feel better soon 💗

I hope you managed to get to the loo all right with your DH's help, and are now settling down again.
Ask him to get you some honey, it really soothes the throat.

Hope your recovery goes well. I agree, it is a good sign that they let you go,home.
I am going in for a small procedure myself soon and again, the staff were wonderful and very reassuring.

I can remember following a liver biopsy I woke up during the night in so much pain I had to ring my adult son who was sleeping in the next room because I was in too much pain to get the tablets out of the foil. I usually am quite brave and have had a number of surgeries but still sweat when thinking of those wee hours of night. Sending healing wishes your way x

Those stockings are a nightmare, even when it isn't hot.

What painkillers have they given you? If they don't contain paracetamol you might be able to add paracetamol to them, a GP told me that on their own they are not strong but when combined with other painkillers they can have a stronger effect.
