Any physio's about to assist?

Are there any physio's on here who could help me decipher this medical jargon? I have tried Dr Google, but am still bamboozled!

I have a long-standing ankle injury that just wasn't healing (after being told it wasn't broken), so I finally had an MRI scan. It came back with the following results:

High grade sprain injury - lateral and medial ligamental complex
Bone marrow oedema in malleoli and posterolateral aspect of calcaneum
Grade 1 sprain injury to the syndesmotic ligaments

Question - this injury is now 10 weeks old. Is there a chance that physio could help me or am I looking at a surgical solution?

Thanks for reading.

Grade 1 - probably more physio than surgery but best to speak to whoever prescribed the MRI.

All the lingo is describing the sprain, traumatic sprain. High relates to the ligaments so a bit above ankle. If it’s 10 weeks do you mean you also have a long standing injury as well?

Are you having a follow up appointment?

Thanks @Minglinglittlesausage. I am awaiting a follow up appointment but thought I’d try and get a heads up so that I’m prepared.
10 weeks has felt like a lifetime to me, injury wise, hence me calling it a long term injury.
I’m just tired of struggling with it feeling worse at rest rather than when I’m using it. It’s keeping me awake every night and it’s draining me. I suppose I’m just hoping for a very quick light at the end of the tunnel….

I’m not a physio but am in a similar situation to you. Fed up of being told to be patient and that healing takes time. I’ve been recommended to have PRP injections so it might be worth you reading up / asking about them at your follow up. (Not sure, but I don’t think the NHS offers them though.)

@Ireallydidntmeantodothat yeah the ortho waiting lists are long. I’m really sorry it sounds rough. Can you ring whoever referred you for the mri and tell them about lack of sleep due to pain maybe? All the best.
