Rib flare and pain

I have been having this weird dull pain under my rib cage. I’m having lots of tests/treatment done for other things and thought this would just get resolved along with all that, but it isn’t really getting better. a lot of reading and research and I have come across the condition of Rib Flare.

I have always had pain in my bottom two ribs, ever since I was a child and I’ve always had a broad rib cage, but I’ve noticed I have that characteristic rib shape and it’s quite significant. My core strength isn’t great despite regular exercise, my posture is also crap. Last 6 months I have been having this strange breathless feeling. I work from home and sit a lot although I do exercise daily and make a conscious effort to move, clearly the wfh set up isn’t helping. I have had pregnancies but my youngest is 8, but I have definitely had this weird dull pain throughout my life (i notice it after sitting for prolonged periods etc, like a tight stiffness in my sides, a bit of stretching does alleviate it but it’s becoming increasingly uncomfortable and I do think it is affecting my breathing.

does anyone have this condition diagnosed? I gather it is most common postpartum. Who could I see to help me? A physio? My gp is close to useless. I’ve been reading about core exercises and breathing/diaphragm exercises - has anyone tried these and did they work?

Costochondritis?

@beeloubee I actually don’t think it is that, for a start I have had it such a long time which I don’t think is characteristic of Costochondritis, and secondly my entire rib cage is a weird shape and noticeably sticks out. I have been asking everyone I know to compare, I’ve not seen a single one whose ribs are flared like mine, most people their ribs are ‘flush’ to their abdomen?

I think my DS has this. He doesn''t have pain but he does have mild scoliosis.

Scoliosis

I know the exact pain you are describing because I have it.

This has reappeared in my feed, but I can update that I went to a chiropractor and she said I had Tietze syndrome, inflammation of the breast bone/sternum. She said my ribs were so swollen it was visible through my clothes! And then over 3 sessions she basically gently tapped my ribs back into place, I sorted out my desk arrangement and …. Voila! No more pain!
