Abnormal T-Waves ECG

So I’m 41 and have recently had a 12 lead ECG which showed abnormal T Waves, I am now awaiting a 24 hour ECG and a scan. I really haven’t been told very much from doctors, they seemed reluctant to say much other than I should go to A&E immediately if I feel chest pain as it may be urgent and risk of heart attack etc.

I wondered if anyone else had similar and wouldn’t mind sharing their experiences of their pathway to diagnosis.

FWIW I am not overweight, don’t smoke, occasional drink and eat relatively healthy although diet wise I could definitely be better. I used to be very fit and exercised very very regularly but the last 4/5 years with lockdown and then having twins who are not yet 2 exercise has gone out the window. I am however pretty much exhausted all of the time even though I sleep well but this exhaustion no amount of sleep seems to cure it. Bloods have been done and ok and thyroid was checked, came back and diagnosed as sub clinical but is now being treated with Levothyroxine and most recent bloods suggest thyroid levels are now ok but I still feel crap!

Thanks in advance.

Hiya! I have abnormal Twaves. It can be for a broad range of reasons to cause abnormal t waves. Sometimes it's "nothing to worry about" but thats easier said than do. For context, I'm 29, I have prinzmetal angina and proxysmal atrial fibrillation.
Try not to panic until you have had your investigations and do not Google 😂
Best of luck x

Thank you for reply, I’ve always considered myself healthy so this came as a bit of a shock. My Dad was about my age when he started having heart trouble, a couple of heart attacks and 5 stents later he is still around and doing ok so I’m trying to keep my head on straight about it.

yes, I had T wave inversions, sinus tachycardia and chest pains a few years ago

had to have a scan and angiogram which were normal, was told it was coronary artery spasm. I have been on medication for the tachycardia and spasms every since

The BHF website has some good info

Lillygolightly · 06/09/2023 14:39

Oh thank you I’ll check out the BHF website.

I wouldn’t say I suffer chest pain, I do get what would consider mild palpitations and have never thought very much of them to be honest as didn’t bother me, I wouldn’t have even thought to mention to the doctor and I only did because I was specifically asked.

DD had this as a finding from a pre-op ECG. After a full day of ECGs, echocardiograms + an opinion from a cardiologist (anaesthetist was taking no chances as it was for major spinal surgery) the result was that it was just a blip in the monitoring! All that stress for what turned out to be nothing!!
