If you've had a leg in plaster for a long time...

How did you keep your toes warm?
Obviously not an issue right now, but likely to be one fairly soon.
I've just had surgery and am going to be in a cast for 12 weeks and then a moon boot for probably another 12 weeks or so. I have been in plaster before but it was in the Spring and Summer so it was keeping cool rather than warm that was a problem - I just wore shorts all the time and had my toes uncovered. This time I'm going to be in a cast through some of the colder months of the year. I've just ordered myself a pair of those hiking trousers where you can zip off the lower leg, so I can effectively have shorts on my bad leg and long trousers on my good one but I'm concerned about getting cold toes as I don't have the best circulation in my bad foot as it is.
If anyone can offer any advice on the best things to wear I'd appreciate it.

Thick sock over the cast? You can usually wear socks with the boot.

Dh had a cast and then a moon boot on at the beginning of this year. He used large thick woolly socks and also bought some heat holder socks which kept his toes warm.

I put wool walking socks that were ribbed so they had some stretch in them.

I broke my leg a couple of years ago. I found that either a bed sock cut at the sides or a crocheted hat did the trick while I was in plaster.

If a sock won't fit, how about chopping the arm of a jumper off?

Second getting the LimBo. I thought 12 weeks didn’t sound too long to keep my cast dry. 12 weeks turned out to be 14 weeks and I was thoroughly fed up of trying of to prop my leg on the side of the bath in a bin bag by the end of it.

You probably won't be able to get those trousers over your cast. You will need something really strechy, like baggy joggers or yoga pants.

Thanks all. I found that Limbo also do something called Cozy Toes which are fleece toe covers that fasten with a velcro strap round the back of your foot so I've ordered one. I'm due a plaster change next week so I can hopefully get matching colours. 😁 Looks like temperatures are going to be dropping soon so it probably won't be long before I don't want my toes exposed!

As a foot and ankle surgeon, I'm curious to know what you're having done that needs almost 6 months of immobilisation?

Completely understand if its outing / identifying in any way, or you'd just rather not say.
