Can toddlers get cold sores?

Dd 20 mo fell doen last week and grazed her nose and top of her lip.

Her nose healed fast, and her lip seemed to. Then it started to weep, and get a sort of white piece of skin on. This went, and it slowly healed. Looked very sore yesterday, but better today. Can they get cold sores?

Yes they can, if they have been in contact with the virus. the first time they get it they often spike a temp

Drusilla · 02/03/2008 20:55

I think they can if they have caught the virus from someone

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 20:55

You wouldn't get it from a graze though

fryalot · 02/03/2008 20:55

Well, they can get cold sores.

But it doesn't sound to me like this is one. It sounds like a cut that is taking its time healing.

It may be an idea to pop to the pharmacist and see if they can recommend some cream for it.

Yes, dd has had cold sores since she was about 3, but it just sounds like the cut is taking longer to heal tbh. It's probably taking more time because of where it is. It's more likely to get wet on her lip, so won't be able to dry out as quickly as the one on her nose.

My dd had a sore lip and developed impetigo on it.....probably useless information, just thought i'd mention it.

It's gone now, but was just a bit concerned about it, as her childminder has had one, but has been very careful not to kiss her.

Thanks for all the help x

It was on the top of her lip, right on the point of the cupids bow...that's why I got suspicious
