second day of term - positive covid test- what now?

Teacher - This is the first time I have had covid since 2020, and is so much worse than the last time.

I was in school yesterday, feeling terrible, but it was the first day of term so I ploughed on through. I felt so ill when I got home that I had already set cover and called the absence line. Woke up in the night feeling half dead, and decided to take a test - now I am sort of wishing I hadn't.

What is expected now - according to NHS, adults over 18 should self isolate for 5 days, is that what people are doing? I was sort of assuming I'd be ok in a day or two, but now not really sure what to expect.

I am assuming I got this from the staff meetings on the inset day on Friday. Started to feel ill on Sunday

Anyone got any recent experience to share? I am immunocompromised, I am not sure how much difference that makes though, as have had all the jabs offered.

As you are immune compromised, you need to take things very, very gently, and call for help if your symptoms worsen.

Are you potentially eligible for the advanced covid treatments? If so, check now how you would get hold of them (they've changed procedures) and remember you need to start them within a certain window of symptoms starting.

As you feel too unwell to work, then of course you stay at home, and tell school you think it's unlikely you'll be back in this week. That is good both for reducing spread from you, but also in making sure you are well rested and properly recovered before attempting normal life again. There's no sure-fire way to avoid long covid, but being too active too quickly seems to make things worse.

It's better for the school for you to take a few days now, than have to cope if you get long covid

Still feeling like death! And it has hit many of the staff, apparently. Thankfully the school are being very proactive to clamp down on the spread, and are insisting that no one comes back within 1 week. It has meant delaying start of term for one year group and rearranging timetables for others, but hopefully this will just go around once this year, not every 3 months.... I have a relative who teaches in Scotland where the same thing happened at the start of term, but it settled quite fast. Meanwhile, sleeping and taking it easy until I feel better

Anyone else suffering with covid right now?

Call 111 for anti virals, stay at home until you feel better, expect that to take a week according to friend's expenses who have had it recently.
