I believe last year I suffered with SAD from October to April, only realising once my mood lifted alongside the lighter mornings and evenings. I thought it was perimenopause starting, eg tiredness, depression, lack of libido, not finding joy in anything. Then, once it was lighter in the mornings, everything reverted back to my usual mental health. That's when I thought perhaps it's not peri but SAD.

My question is....is there anything I can do right now in September that would help to lessen the symptoms once autumn and winter kicks in? Would it be worthwhile to see the dr? I am 46 and my cycle has gone a bit weird so I'm thinking peri could be involved too at some point.

Thanks.

Many people suffer with SAD during the winter months, there was a couple of good support threads on here last year. I take vit D, vit B12 and have a SAD lamp, you can also buy lightbulbs that are good. I get myself out every day during daylight hours for fresh air and a walk and plan things to do on the dark evenings ie a yoga class, craft projects etc.

I’m retired but have been using a SAD lamp for a few years now.

I got a good one (from Lumie I think) and use it from October to March. I use it when I have my morning coffee. I also take vit D all year.

im getting outside as much as I can this week as the weather is so good.

I’m really think it helps. I’m still much better in the summer, but the winter isn’t quite so awful.

Thank you both. I will get myself some vitamins and look into getting a lamp.

I’ve got a lamp and I think it helps (it’s hard to know really). What I definitely know does help is making sure that I get outside - even if it’s grey and miserable
