Hi All
Having a bit of a 'do' with ds2. He's just 4 months and has had a snuffly nose for the last couple of weeks. the last few days he's started to cough, sounds like a tickly cough from his snuffly nose which would be ok but evey so often he seems to choke on the phlegm. Its worst after his morning feed (2-4am) when it makes him cough so much he violently brings up a huge burp that sounds painful (not much milk though). The coughing can go on for an hour until he settles back to sleep. He doesn't seem too bothered by it all, is happy in himself all day, settles down well to sleep and doesn't have a temp but quite frankly its scaring the s**t out of me and DH as it sound so awful. We're doing the usual, humudifier, elevated cot head, karvol plug in and we're sitting up with him until he's sound asleep before putting him down again but would appreciate some thoughts from you guys
an increasingly worried phee xx

Some babies are more snuffly than others. However if I were you I'd take him to the GP to get it checked out - he may have reflux or possibly something like bronchilitis coming on and it's better to rule out a physical cause first.

Sounds very worrying for you though and it's hard enough to get sleep in the first six months without this too

I'm assuming you are winding him before putting him down after his feed at 2am BTW. Sorry to state the bleeding obvious but if he's burping he's probably still got some wind there - I found sitting DD bolt upright against me with her chin cupped under my fingers so she was definitely not slouching produced prodigious burps and prevented her lying down and then coughing.
