I never used to suffer from particularly heavy af, but since having my DD in September I experience at least 2 days which I would consider heavy. I had an awful experience today in fact. I was at the shops with DS1 (11), DS (8) and DD (6 months) and I just started flooding. Sorry if TMI, but I was wearing a super fat tampon! It was really awful awful, had to run, literally to the nearest restaurant and use their toilet, leaving my boys looking somewhat confused standing outside .

I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor and see if it would help if I started the pill or something.

Has anyone else experienced similar after having their baby?

Mine have always been on the heavy side. I only had two periods between ds 1 and ds2 but when they came back as I stopped bf Jan 07 when ds2 was 8m they were frighteningly heavy. Some times I hardly dared stand up if I'd been sitting a while.
Just wanted you to know though that the past couple of months they are noticeably calming down. So that took a year.....

I wondered if, after you have given birth a couple of times the cervix takes longer to go back to the size it was and the flow can just come out faster?

Have you had a smear yet?
I don't know how long after birth they say wait but I do know when I was having really heavy and painful periods I had a smear and had abnormal cells, after they were removed my periods went back to normal, don't know why though tbh.

I have always suffered from periods that leaned to the heavy side but really only slightly to the heavy side of normal.

After having dd I was fine maybe a little heavier but after DS 2 next month I have 2 days of hell. I cannot wear tampons they just don't cut it for that couple of days I feel really floored on the 2nd day I stopped bf when ds was 14-15 months old and this has gone on since then. Never been to the dr but decided after a year of this I am going to as they have never settled down.

I had my DD by c-section, so I guess it can't be down to cervix going back down to pre pregnant size. Hmm, I had a smear just over 2 years ago. Should I ask about having another one?

I get bad cramps with it. Not good.

Oh yes , durrrrrr, ds2 was a section!!!

I had day 2 of the same flooding that ineedacleaner is speaking of. I don't wear tampons anyway but no pad seemed big enough on that couple of heavy days.

Come to think of it must book a smear, had the letter a few months back but our blardy clinic only takes bookings for the clinic dates they've been given. Then your periods are not clockwork so you have to cancel but the next couple of clinics are full... it went on like this for 6 months last time I had one.

Know just what you mean...

Have been lucky, never had any probs with mine b4 having my dd, very light, very little painetc. Since having her it is a different story! VB, forcepts, BF (nearly stopped she is 14 months) and I can not use tampax for the first 3 days. I have to change a towel every hour or so and it pretty much does not stop. Headaches, stomach aches, feel sick etc.

Saw my GP as remember back in my study days it is unusual for women over 35 (ok not quite there yet!!) to have big changes to their periods including becoming very heavy. GP just said your body has changed and it is normal take paracetamol.

So glad it is not just me, my sister says now I know what she has had to put up with since she was 13!!
