10 month old has a fever

Hey guys, sorry for another post. My 10 month old has a temperature, he definitely caught it off me as I was unwell since the last 3 days. He had a bit of a cough yesterday and he was a bit warm before he went to bed so I gave him calpol around half 8 in the evening. I woke up an hour ago and checked on him and he has a high temperature and was burning up. My thermometer is broken so I can’t check exactly how high his temperature is but it’s definitely high, he felt as hot as fire 😭 I gave him calpol just over half an hour ago, he still feels really really warm but he’s now back to sleep and he’s sleeping with his dad. I can’t sleep at all as I’m so busy worrying and I feel so bad because he’s ill because of me. He’s never had a high temperature before (he only did after his vaccines). Should I let him sleep and keep checking on him or should I call 111? The temperature is definitely high.

If he feels really really hot to touch OP after an hour with calpol I'd try and strip him down a little to let his body try and regulate properly. I'd also be wary of the fact of dads body heat next to DC. So just be careful of that.

If he hasnt cooled down once you've stripped him and after an hour with calpol ring 111 for advice. Try not to worry. This won't be the last little bug he'll catch. Kids are super resilient x

I would probably call 111. They'll ask you to come in but that might be best. I waited until morning when DS had a high fever on a Friday night as reasoned he needed sleep and a and e would be awful. He was severely dehydrated by the Saturday morning and wished that I had taken him sooner

Sorry, it's so so frightening

I ended up calling 111 who told me to wait for a call back from an urgent care centre. They didn’t even say how long they’ll call me in, I don’t want to fall asleep in case I miss the call even though my phone isn’t on silent. I’m not sure but maybe baby feels a tiny bit less hot than he did before? Although he’s still really hot to touch, but maybe a teeny bit less than before? This is the first time he’s got such a high temperature, I don’t know what to do 🥺 he’s now next to me in bed but I don’t want to sleep at all.

Remember a temperature means he's fighting off something, a temperature means his body is working and doing the right thing. It's good that someone will call you, try and get some sleep and pop your phone on loud under your pillow- you'll wake up.

It's horrible seeing your children poorly, I remember this worried feeling xx

Just to reassure you (I have 4 kids including a 10mo old!) they have had many temps over the years - chicken pox was the absolute worst if I recall. Keep giving lots of fluid and follow drs advice. He should be just fine! It’s always scariest with your first, and always worst in the middle of the night.

StopMindlesslyScrolling · 02/09/2023 06:26

There's a lot of Covid about at the moment; have you tested yourself for that? You say you've been poorly?

If you're positive, it's likely that's what your baby has and once you know the cause you can look at the ways to best treat it.

Hope you're both feeling better soon.

CurlewKate · 02/09/2023 06:58

Can one of you pop out and buy a thermometer? It might set your minds at rest. Make sure you don't bundle him up or cuddle him too tight-he needs to be kept as cool as possible.

Thanks so much guys. We finally got a callback from the urgent care centre and DS was crying and screaming in the background. He hardly got any sleep last night and he just doesn’t know what to do. As soon as the doctor heard him crying like that, he told us to take him to the hospital so that’s where we’re headed.
