I bet you your lo does much worse to himself every time you leave him naked for a sec, dh flinches every time he sees how ds treats his winkle!

bumbly · 01/03/2008 21:27

is your son 7 months old?

baby was having gen check up as been rather worried about his development

but before i reacted gp just gently oulled back foreskin to reveal tip of penis (couple of times) and i was left stunned silent

gp was a locum

has anyone had this done to their 7 month old ish baby and all been well

baby did not flinch but was told at hospital to NEVER move foreskin

DS has buried penis and we just saw the urologist about it.

He said you SHOULD NOT pull back the foreskin at this age, can scar or something

Why did he do that, seems strange?

bumbly · 01/03/2008 21:34

yeah i think strange too was poart of whole baody check up - but what iwas worried about was head control argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no more comments

if you pull it gently and no pain and no blood etc - is it all fine?

or is justa citon of pulling back going to harm little winkle?

I think they say NEVER EVER to stop dim parents being too rough. I would have thought the doctor would know what the human penis will safely put up with.

LIZS · 02/03/2008 10:10

I think you'd have known if it had hurt him . As long as all looks fine now. How was the check up overall , reassuring ?

itsahardknocklife · 02/03/2008 10:14

I think I vaguely remember the doc doing this to DS at one of his check ups, so don't worry.

ib · 02/03/2008 11:38

Sorry, had to go. I asked my sister who is a paed. She said it's fine so long as it's not pulled back hard enough to detach it. The reason you are told never to is because it's better if it detaches in it's own time, and sometimes parents who are over-enthusiastic about cleaning may forcibly detach it without meaning to.

Ds is 14 mo now but he used to play with his really roughly since he was tiny - apparently quite normal.

Please don't worry, his foreskin was obviously not forcibly detached if he didn't even flinch!

LiegeAndLief · 02/03/2008 12:26

Ds had this done to him at about 6-7 months - he had hypospadias and had his foreskin moved gently back by the surgeon to examine for surgery. Was done by plastic surgeon specialising in hypospadias (therefore small willies!) so assume it was fine!

"I think they say NEVER EVER to stop dim parents being too rough."

ib can you ask your sister...if any damage would have happened would it have bled or swelled? is that the way to know if all ok? plus lo never flinched...

or can damage occurr without any signs??????
