Need helping in claiming medical insurance.

I am not great in claiming from insurance. I was paying my own money earlier for private consultation and scans even though I was covered by DH's insurance 🙄

My current job offers medical insurance for me from Aviva. It covers any pre-existing conditions. But it does not cover any chronic condition.

We are due to start our IVF journey soon. During investigation it was discovered that

  1. I have a blocked fallopian tube which needs laparoscopy / clipping
  2. there was a cyst found in my ovary for which we needs further evaluation - more consultations & scans need to be done

Due to NHS wait time, I am planning to go private for the above and use my employer's insurance. I will not be able to afford the cost from my own pocket as we have IVF also in the pipeline 😟

Are these covered by employer insurance usually ? - Consultations with Gynaecologist , Ultrasound /MRI scans , treating the blocked fallopian tube

How can I put them across in a way that the insurance accepts it ? Any tips ?

I went through the insurance documents but I couldn't find the answers. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Yeah so insurance won't cover any of this as they will consider it fertility related and they categorically exclude anything to do with that

I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and requested a scan done of my remaining tube to check if it was blocked - not for fertility purposes - more because I wanted to know if I was risking my life to continue trying to conceive naturally and I was getting really bad ovulation pain. They refused....It really is pretty sexist and outdated medical insurance because if a man had a cyst they cover it but the fact it's on an ovary then nope! I got pregnant again and had another ectopic in the remaining tube and guess what it ruptured and I nearly died - I made sure I claimed the maximum £££ I could from my insurance cover by checking straight into the private hospital and staying more nights than I probably really needed to!

Whilst arguing with the insurers the first time my GP - a woman helpfully - said she could probably find a way round it by writing a referral that the incredibly painful ovulation I was experiencing and bloating needed ultrasound investigation. This wouldn't have got my last tube clipped but it would have got the cysts looked at possibly?

You'd need to go via NHS referral for tube clipping and the wait time can be quite long. Unless an IVF clinic has refused to treat you due to it then I would just go straight to IVF?

Fertility treatment is normally a general exclusion, but some corporate policies do include it. Check the exclusions in the user guide.

You need to ask your own insurance company, all policies are different so asking MN isn’t going to help

My insurance states that fertility related problems are not covered :(
