Chest pain. I did nothing at the time, but now?

On the train home from work I was struck with the most horrendous chest pain which somehow radiated into my jaw/teeth. For several minutes I was really in a lot of pain. Then it passed and I'm fine.

I was googling to see if indigestion can be felt in your teeth (it can) but the pain from a heart attack can also be felt in your teeth!

It seems advice would have been to call an ambulance when I had the initial pain, but as I didn't and it's now passed do I assume it was indigestion or should I see someone? If so how urgent is it?

I've never had indigestion before so I don't recognise the pain and it's not something I suffer from, but neither am I high risk for heart attack. 53, slim, fit, low resting heart rate, low blood pressure.

You need urgent medical attention, just in case it was something serious. They need to rule out a sinister cause. Please call your out-of hours service and speak to someone as soon as possible.

I’ve had similar before where it feels like you’re having a heart attack and stops you in your tracks.

Ive had it a few times and I remember the first time it happened I was helping out at a function, one of the attendees said to me drink some fizzy juice.

It could be strong indigestion but you should see your GP just to do some checks and also put my mind at ease x

Chest pain radiating into your jaw is far more classic for cardiac pain than for indigestion. Get checked out tonight.

BettyOBarley · 24/08/2023 20:02

You need to get checked.
DH's auntie recently had a heart attack on the Tuesday but put it down to indigestion, she didn't get seen until Saturday by which time it has caused permanent damage to her heart which could have been avoided.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/08/2023 20:02

Go to A&E. There's a possibility that your heart is slowly filling with blood - once it's the shape of a banana (tends to be about 2 days), that's it; Game Over.

Fingerscrossed11 · 24/08/2023 20:02

Put your mind at ease I meant.

but also if you feel generally unwell afterwards then you should maybe go to A&E just to be safe.

Conqueeftador · 24/08/2023 20:02

Your best bet is to call 111 and follow their advice op.

Xrays · 24/08/2023 20:03

Go to A and E now. They’ll run checks and can tell you if it was heart related.

gamerchick · 24/08/2023 20:04

You need to get it seen too OP. I have a friend who was having similar episodes. Didn't last long so she ignored it, until she couldn't. Frightened the life out of her finding out her heart wasn't happy.

Please see a doctor.

Pebblepaint · 24/08/2023 20:07

I had an ECG not long ago because I was fainting. The verdict then was low blood pressure/hot weather and drink more. ECG results fine.

Slim, fit 53 yr olds can have coronary disease too. It's not all self inflicted and you often don't get many warnings before it shows itself (I don't mean fatally btw).

With those symptoms you really need to get it checked out pretty soon.
Either 111 or just go to A&E.

This. Go now

ohcrums · 24/08/2023 20:10

Don't think ahhhh it will be ok. Get it checked out. If there's 1% chance it's not OK that 1% could kill you

Pebblepaint · 24/08/2023 20:19

OK. I phoned 111 and they're sending an ambulance. I offered to get myself to A&E but they didn't want me to do that

ECG will look fine if you haven’t had an MI yet, it does sound potentially cardiac (I’m saying this because it’s my job), I’ve seen plenty of slim fit patients in their 50s and even younger who have heart problems, please go to A&E they will do some blood tests and an ECG and you will know for sure. I always remember a patient I had who was 54 during covid, she had chest and back pain and left it because she thought she was too young and it was something else, she had an MI, ended up with a VSD (hole in your heart) and died. Women often don’t realise they’re having MIs because they present differently to men, and due to sexism we are rarely told about symptoms women experience.

Notimelikeyesterday · 24/08/2023 20:23

Yeah my mum had a heart attack they do a blood test as the protein marker stays circulating for 24hrs. They tested mine to when I thought I was having one.

Fingerscrossed11 · 24/08/2023 20:29

@Pebblepaint sending hugs and best wishes.

Saucepot1985 · 24/08/2023 20:34

I had something similar happen to me on Monday and I took myself to A&E. They run some tests that will be able to tell if it’s a heart related issue, blood test ECG etc. One main blood test looked for something called Troponin. I believe over a certain level of this is indicative of a heart attack. Mine was all clear, put down to anxiety. Big hugs OP best to go get checked, they will tell you that you did the right thing! Keep us updated xx

Going to hospital is the right thing to do.

WantingToEducate · 24/08/2023 20:42

I hope everything turns out to be ok OP 🤞

Araminta34 · 24/08/2023 20:45

Good luck, OP. You've done the right thing in going to the hospital.

Xrays · 24/08/2023 22:47

Thinking of you op and hope you get treated well and some answers. 💐

They can still check for markers in the blood after the event has passed. Good idea getting it checked out. I hope you are okay and it was nothing much.
