Getting hearing aids tomorrow after dragging my feet for years. Been to 2 different ent drs hoping they could do something but there wasn't. So I'm getting in canal ones. I'm getting really worked up now, anxious amd excited as well, im hoping they will be life changing particularly in work situation. Any tips on getting used to the sound its 45 day money back guarantee but I do have to pay upfront 3k.

My advice as a hearing aid veteran is to persevere and not to expect too much straight away.

I was 21 when I got my first ones and I found all the racket too much and couldn’t wait to take them out.

Build up your tolerance by wearing them for increasing lengths of time.

They’ll never make you ‘not deaf’ but hearing the birds sing is amazing!

Good luck.

DH got his last week and took to them straight away.

@bobdylannumber1 How are you getting on with your new hearing aids. I would like in ear ones as I can't get on with the over the ear ones, they keep falling off but I think I also have small ear drums so not sure how in the ear would work for me or even if they are available on NHS in my area.

I have the aids around 6 weeks they are totally in ear canal. Sounds very real sounding just louder i can hear perfectly with them i worried about the sound being weird its not. I worried my ears would hurt or feel blocked at first i did feel them in my ears now I check to make sure I have them in .I have conversations in work and hear it all. They are discreet I've been for lunch with a colleague and she didn't notice ( she's the type who would say ) I am still hiding my ears tbh but they are onky noticeable if you are sitting beside me and looking closely . Mine are widex 330 cic .

I'm so glad to hear they're working for you!!!! It must be lovely.

Please don't worry that people can see them. Millions of people wear great big glasses on the front of their face to correct vision impairement - I've never understood why people do that and yet are embaressed about someone seeing that they wear something for a hearing impairement! No one cares - they're just greatful you can hear them now!

That’s great to hear OP - sorry had missed your update

LeakyPipes · 09/10/2023 21:33

It's great that you've had such a good result, OP! I got them about 18 months ago and they work quite well, but not as well as yours.

BTW, try not to worry about others seeing them. Remind yourself that very many people wear all kinds of things in their ears these days in place of the old-fashioned headphones, so if anybody did happen to spot anything they'd probably just assume that you're ultra-trendy with some sophisticated new headphones :)

coolcahuna · 09/10/2023 21:59

That's brilliant. I've had mine 4 months now, I've got the over ear ones. Honestly they have changed my life, I can hear everything and keep them in most of the day. At first I took them out by 6pm as it was overwhelming.

I'm so much more confident and also less tired from my ears and brain working over time!

Has anyone heard of Signia Active Pro. A family member in the USA has them and says they are the latest technology.

couiza · 07/02/2024 19:24

Delighted to hear (ahem) that they are working well for you.

I would like to try the in ear canal ones, but I am afraid they would fall out! That would be an expensive thing to happen.

Anyway, I have Phonak Paradise. Over the ear but very discreet, not that I care, I wear them with absolute pride TBH. They have transformed my life and the lives of those around me too. I wear my hair up a lot and it doesn't bother me in the least that they are visible to others.

I would urge anyone with hearing loss to check out hearing aids. You will not believe the difference they make. Things have come a long way now and they are far from ugly anymore.

bobdylannumber1 · 07/02/2024 21:36

Gfplux ive never heard of those sorry.
No they wouldn't fall out as they are totally in the canal in far no chance they'd fall out, they have totally changed my life. I hear everything especially in work.
