Isn't is great how quickly things move when you pay for your Health!!

DS has been suffering with a recent painful scoliosis and muscle spasms in his back. We have been fobbed off by GP for ages and finally got them to refer him to the hospital - but the wait for an appt was horrendous.

Finally phoned up the COnsultant he was booked to see under NHS and arranged a Private Consultation on Tuesday. He was fab and considers DS fairly urgent, so has put him back to NHS care, but we now have Blood Tests booked for Monday, an MRI scan (under anaesthetic) booked for Wednesday and an Orthopaedic Appointment (get MRI results) for Thursday.

I am sooooo relieved that things are finally moving as I am not sleeping and the whole family is drained.

It proves, you don't have to pay for everything, but once the Consultant sees you he can assess your need and act accordingly.

£180 well spent

yes it is great

and at the same time totally unfair and inequitable

Milliways · 29/02/2008 17:47

I felt the same, and felt guilty (I work for NHS!) but my Mum gave me the money and I think he has suffered enough.

No kid should be left on Diazepam and various other drugs with no-one investigating why

hey we pay through the nose for insurance and I wouldn't be without it after the last few years tbh

I so want to suport the NHS, but when DH needed a very urgent op and NHS offered a waiting list of 6 - 9 months and private offered Monday week, its a no brainer!

So glad things are moving - and as i said before feel cross for you and your ds that this wasn't done earlier on the nhs. Where I work we are lucky and have a great paed ortho service - gp's can refer and child with your ds's symptoms would be seen v. quickly and investigated. Good luck with all the tests next week and be good to hear from you when you know what's going on!

He had the MRI today - was totally sedated, and was in the scanner for an hour.

Home now, results tomorrow.
