Question for contact lens wearers

I've just started a trial of two different types of daily lenses. My question is are you meant to feel them in your eyes? One type are definitely better compared to the other but even after just two hours my eyes feel dry and gritty. Should I try another brand or is this normal? Not sure I could wear them all day as they are.

I'm not a professional but I've been wearing lenses for 55 years.

AFAIK there are lots of different lens materials and lots of variation in people's eyes. The only reason it's not usual to have to try several brands is that opticians are good at predicting what's likely to be a good match. The better you can describe what doesn't feel right (aware of edges, feels dry, feels gritty, feels sticky etc etc) the more help you'll be giving them. I would ring your optician and explain what you're experiencing, they will advise you whether to persevere or whether to try something different.

In the meantime make sure you keep blinking more frequently and more purposefully than you think you need to, that can make a big difference

Are you using daily or monthly lenses? Only because I know monthly lenses are much drier than dailies. I use daily lenses and I could feel them in my eye a little bit at first but it was never uncomfortable. Sometimes when theres a fan on or an AC unit near me my eyes dry up, but I just pop a red hycosan drop in and it’s fine afterwards.

I've got dry eyes & have been wearing lenses for 25 years now and can't feel them (until I get tired & then they start to slip).

If I was you I'd try different ones as you shouldn't be feeling them.

I use Clariti lenses and have never had a problem.

I've been wearing contacts for almost 30years and if you are feeling them they might be inside out... The right way, the lense should look like a bowl. The wrong way, and it's almost saucer like... With a lip.

Try using some contact lens compatible lubricating drops with them

You may have dry eyes in which case use contact lens drops to moisturise your eyes every couple of hours.
It's definitely worth persevering with the trial but do discuss this with your optician as a different type of lens may suit you better.
It is trial and error for the first few weeks but usually worth it in the end. 🙂

I wear Accuvue extended wear lenses, the only time I feel them is first thing in a morning when I wake up, 2 drops of my moisturising eye drops & they are back to normal.

I have two week ones (that I take out each night) and even towards the end of the two weeks I can't feel them. If I wear them for longer than two weeks, which has happened why I've forgotten to take spares on holiday etc, then yes they feel dry. But day to day when I wear them properly I can't feel them

The same here. Have been wearing them for 18 years.
Op, is this the first time you tried them on? Let your eyes get used to contact lenses - I fund them really strange at the start too! I would give them a few days and if you can still feel them I would ask the opticians for another type/ brand.

I am sensitive to some contact lens plastics and I know if I am sensitve if i can feel them in my eyes. Worth trying a different material?

Kathyparr · 24/08/2023 19:47

Thanks for all the suggestions. I definitely need some eye drops. I've put the more uncomfortable type in today just to check it want me putting them in wrong and they feel itchy. I also find my right eye is really blurry if I close my left, like worse than without lenses or glasses. Not sure what's up with them but this style are a definite no.
