10 month old being sick, mild reflux? Is it a problem?

Hi, I have a 10 month old ds and he has always been sick after feeds and when he is nearing a feed. I have a dd and she was much the same but I don't remember it continuing for this long. HV's told me that it should stop once dd could sit unaided. It was around then. I wasn't worried about ds because of this and thought it should stop at around 6 months.

He has been sitting/crawling/rolling for a few months now but is still being sick. It isn't worrying me for any health reasons particularly but he shouldn't really being doing it, should he?

He is eating/sleeping/drinking putting on weight etc etc.

It's the smell that's really getting to me. Since he's been on solids it is just disgusting.

Does anyone know if I should be worried? Is there anything I can do?

If he's still like it once he can walk then I will go to the doctor. unless anyone advises I go straight away

TIA

Hi,

My DS has reflux but has always been "pukey". Was told once he gets to 4 months it will improve- Nope. Once he gets onto solids- Nope. Once he sits up a lot- Nope!!

He had a lot of pain with his vomiting/eating as a consequence of painful acidy oesophagus so used meds.

Most people say that if they are undisturbed by the sick/ putting on weight then its "just" a laundry issue and not to use meds. But then "they" had to change their own and babies clothes all the time there might be a different answer.

Dont think there is anything to worry about health wise but you can get thickeners for feeds/infant Gaviscon or specially thickened formula which apparently can help keep things down.

Unfortunately I found with my DS that the Gaviscon thickened things ALL the way through and he got tummy pain and constipation!! Cant win.

There are several common sense things that can help. I keep him in his high chair for at least 30 mins after feeds and dont give him too much fluid at meal times- give in inbetween. Dont lie him down straight after feeds etc.

All the best.

thanks davidsmom I don't think ds needs any meds tbh as he isn't bothered by the sickness. It's just so smelly People often comment that he doesn't even spit his dummy out before he's sick and ends up with it stuck to his face

I guess it will stop at some point

Oh and I think he'd get very annoyed in his highchair without food/drink. Toys would get thrown straight off the tray! He doesn't lay down either as he crawls. TBH I think the crawling action has alot to do with the sickness and am really hoping once he's upright and walking things will get better or even stop

Oh yes the sick stuck to dummy been there done that with sore chin too! No one has commented yet but we have managed to reduce dummy time recently.

Used to have dummy in almost 24/7 as helped his symptoms/sickieness. Although things still spurted out- nice.....

He used to sick up a lot while in the middle of breastfeeding then want more...I went through a lot of clothes and often used to change into my dressing gown to feed as it was towelling and would at least soak some of it up.

Funny that just realised not needed it for a bit must have gradually improved so not a sudden noticable change! Or have just got used to the acidy smell of food/sick.

Being on his front definately brings things up more- Grandma used to put him on his frontall the time ad he would get very unsettled for hours overnight. She didnt get up for him! Again improved recently.

Thanks- you have cheered me up- things ARE improving!!!!!
