If it's not skin cancer- what is it?

I've had this 'sore' on my calf, up near my knee for years. I went to the dr about 18months- 2 years ago and he looked at it and said it didn't look like skin cancer. Gave me some steroid cream which did nothing. It hasn't changed size in the last few years (approx 1cm diameter) Sometimes it bleeds and scabs. I am very self conscious of it.
Should I see a dermatologist? Can it be removed? Is there some magic cream I should try?

I've been to the Dr recently for something that looks similar. Mine is a dermatofibroma, I was told to go back if it becomes irritated or grows more than 1cm.
If I were you I'd go back for another check just due to the length of time you've had it.

Go to a dermatologist. They will be able to check further and have more treatment options.

Go back. Ask for or a referral to a dermatologist and don’t let them fob you off.

How many times have you seen the GP about it and have you asked for a referral to dermatology?

I had something like this on my back. I was under a dermatologist as I did have squamous cells in another area. This was also one of my concerns. The dermatologist couldn't say by eye if it was cancerous or not, so it was biopsied. It came back as a keratosis and not harmful.

Basal and squamous change quite fast, there would be a change in 2 years. But I think you need to get it biopsied to be sure.

I think you need to see a dermatologist and get a second opinion. Even if it’s not cancerous I think it needs removing so it doesn’t become cancerous in the future.

Thanks everyone! I think @Crunchiethatfridayfeeling has given me a good idea of what it is, which is reassuring. Seems like most would get it checked again- will move it up the list of things to get round to!
