Urticaria/eczema and cleansing

How do you cleanse your face when you have an attack or flare-up of uritcaria or eczema?

The gunk I have to put on my face is so greasy (and doesn't smell all that nice, either). Do I just slap it on top of the previous day's lot, or can I cleanse it off between times? Or do I have to wait until my skin heals before I can cleanse again?

You can use moisturisers like epaderm as cleansers too!

Even the greasy ones?

Hi Pc I am writing from my hospital bed.am wrapped up like a mummy in wet wraps and zinc bandages.I am willing my skin to improve.Out on Friday.Just glad you can get interweb on Patientline, or i would be going mental.

ok cleansing.what to do.my feeling is the less you touch the skin the better.but you sometimes need to get the gunk off and start again.i would get a bit of muslin- you know the muslin squares you use for babies boke.fill the sink with warm water and a squirt of balneum or dermol bath emollient.if you dont have any try a teensy drop of tea tree or peppermint oil.NO SOAP.
gently wring out the muslin and apply flat to your face.repeat a few tme until you feel the gunk lifting.rinse the muslin in warm water and apply again.try not to rub.
let the water evaporate from skin and dry in the air.immediately apply moisturiser so the skin doesn't dry out.
i can tolerate a face wipe sometime too.E45 do them now although they are hard to come by.also tesco do a sensitive skin one, but go with care!

i have been old off (in here)for using a facecloth and one of those nylon scrunchies as both are too rough for skin apparently.
all the best PC.bonne chance.

Do you at least feel you're getting a break from being the other sort of Mummy?

Thanks, I shall try what you suggest. I have both the essential oils you mention, tho not the other stuff. Would Lavender oil be suitable (I prefer the smell)?

Interesting about the facecloth, as that may well have been a contributing factor to my current flare-up. I've been using Olay Daily Facials (a wipe) for ages now, not every day, without any problems. But I had my first facial in about 15y and the beautician said that I must must must exfoliate regularly. So I switched to a cleanser that you squirt onto a soft facecloth...and ended up like this.

Thanks also Danae. I'll look into those products.

Hi Pc. i think lavender would be ok, but just a tiny drop in the water.it also has antiseptic properties.
yes the rough towel( no softener/not tumble dried) i brought with me was treated with scorn-they know all the tricks of getting a good scratch in here.she(Sister) tried to whip my knitting needles off me( could be used to scratch my back) but i held firm on that one

Not getting much of a break really.hospital routine is relentless.dh and dd are coping well no doubt.its propbably more of a break for them.(tee hee)
Its hard to sleep-blimey look at the time.even though i am being plied with antihistamine.
hope your face calms soon.sometimes it just needs time.i feel gross in here without any slap, but i know it is doing me good.
best of luck.
