dont they scar!

avenanap · 28/02/2008 19:45

Not a good idea. I think they contain bacteria that spreads it. Probably best to let it go away by itself. I'm sure someone with better knowledge will come along soon.

Psychomum5 · 28/02/2008 19:48

well....I have, and then it got infected which made ALL of them go away.....BUT.....as all of them got angry by me squeezing the one, they ALL scarred, so I felt like a big mean mummy and DS1 (whose one I 'angered') now has lots of little scars on his neck and cheek which is where they all were and why I tried the squeezing method.

sooooo

leave alone

TrinityRhino · 28/02/2008 19:48

my daughter used to get eczema between hers and scratch them till they became infected a couple of times - she has minor scars but i have seen bigger scars on others

they are awful but have to be endured

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/02/2008 19:50

My son had one. Just leave them alone. they aren't harmful and will go of their own accord.

ladytophamhatt · 28/02/2008 19:52

what is Molloscum?
I've seen it mentioned alot on here but I've never actually known what it is...

katwith3kittens · 28/02/2008 19:52

I thought the advice was to squeeze them ??

.....or at least it was about 4 years ago when DS got it. He had to have a hot bath and then I gently squeezed one which then set off a kind of chain reaction thing and the others all disappeared.

No scarring either.

A dilemma then..... to squeeze or not to squeeze .........

2happy · 28/02/2008 19:54

It's a virus isn't it? I think it spreads if you scratch it. Bet it's satisfying to squeeze though...

my dr said to agitate them gently with a matchstick. i found with ds1's enormous ones that lasted 2 yrs (!) if you leave them the centre hardens and will hang around for ever-if you pop them(and obviously disinfect) they bleed, then scab over and heal.i felt i had to do it because ds1 was scratching them off with dirty fingers and dr said best thing to do. ds1 has some scarring as does ds2, but they're so tiny that as adults they'll be invisible.
dd has such tiny ones that don't look infected and don't bother her - so i've just left them-she had some unfortunate ones in her bottem crease though - i just put sudocrem on them.

Psychomum5 · 28/02/2008 20:01

lady.....molloscom are like tiny little warts that look like white pearls.

highly contagious, and spread like widfire between siblings (as I found with my 5!!!)

TrinityRhino · 29/02/2008 07:57

shit
noone told me thius
they all bath together
dd2 has had them for about 15 months now and noone else has them
I had never heard of them ever before till she got them
noone O knows children has ever had them

dd1 and gecko dont have them
I asked the doc about it being cintagious and whether I should take her swimming or worry about nursery and he said not at all contagious
nothing to worry about
she has been going swimming
they always bath together all squished up in a tiny bath

DS2 had 4 of these, no one else in the family got them.

They lasted months and months.

DS2 did pick at his a bit. They went without treatment as such.

Some other children in his class had them at the same time, which is how I found out what it was, no need for a visit to nurse/doctor.

turtle23 · 29/02/2008 19:21

I know that no doctor will tell you to squeeze them, but I had them in a much more unfortunate place and was told by GUM clinic that if the top breaks and the pearly bit gets exposed they will spread, and as they were somewhere that rubbed quite a bit, the advice was to squeeze them carefully. I had them for a month, getting progressively worse, and after squeezing they all went in a week. I know what I would do next time.

WHen my nephew had this my sil was given a leaflet where they said that squeezing them helps them to go more quickly.

When dd2 had it we found they often came to a head when she had been swimming and they would come out really easily. SHe has no scars.

stuffitllama · 29/02/2008 20:27

COMFREY CREAM
that's your answer

taffy101 · 29/02/2008 20:39

I tried all sorts on dd and they didn't go. They got infected by themselves somehow and disappeared overnight virtually but they have scarred, but I am sure will fade loads.
Dd shared bath with ds and he never got them.

bundle · 29/02/2008 20:42

dd's used to catch, bleed and hurt her.
decided enough was enough. gp prescribed cream normally used for genital warts not licensed for children, has to be applied incredibly carefully every so many days.

ALL OF THEM went after just a few applications. very happy

taffy101 · 29/02/2008 20:43

also she had them for 18 months, i didn't feel she should not go swimming for that long - gp said ok to swim and I started international debate on MN about it - mostly people who'd had it said swim, people who hadn't said don't! interestingly they got 'infected' whilst on hols maybe from swimming pool lol
