She has what is probably chicken pox but is without doubt the worst case I have ever seen with every square inch bellow the waist covered. I left her alone for 30 mins while making supper for her and her brothers and I returned to find her bleeding. She has taken huge chunks ( the size of 10 pence pieces ) off the backs of her legs. She is sitting in bed covered in calamine lotion wearing her brothers pyjamas and a pair of gloves. And feeling very sorry for her self.
Any idea.
Poor girl. She is 5

oh dear poor little girl. Would some kind of antihistamine help? calamine lotion is the best for itching i think...

pagwatch · 28/02/2008 19:04

Thanks.
i might call the Doctor in the morning and askabout anti-histamine. Or the chemist.

Cut her nails?

If it's only below the waist could it be an allergy to washing powder? Was she waering tights or trousers when it started?

pagwatch · 28/02/2008 19:08

assdoc.
Yes - I did that but her skin is so raw that she is almost rubbing the top off. Thanks for trying though . Any ideas gratefully considered.
I am googling to see if i can find an allergy suit anywhere locally - or urgent delivery.

Oh bless her - antihistamine will definately help with the itching. Cool bath might help aswell.
Other than that think you have done all you can.
Hope rash starts to clear up soon xx

No , definately not an allergy, and Dr is pretty sure it is chicken pox but there was no blistering. She doesn't wear tights or trousers as she gets eczema. The ezcema on her legs is the reason why I didn't initially realise that something else was going on.
She does have spots on her torso and face but legs are worst !

Piriton. Tonight. (they sell it in supermarkets) It will ease the itching and help her sleep - that is not bad, at this point, it is necessary. Get well soon to your little girl.

pagwatch · 28/02/2008 19:55

Thanks !!!
DH is in the car as we speak going to get some piriton.

I am going to keep her in cotton jammies tomorrow and tape the ankles and wrists so it at least slows her down. I could tape the waist too but she will need to pee

Big Thank you every one!
She has just woken up and has not scratched over night. She has clearly made quite a bad mess of her legs but I will keep her clean and covered up and plug on with the piriton and calamine lotion. I have some vit E oil ready for when it is recovering and I am watching closely for any infection in the areas she has opened up .

Thanks all.
( I know it isn't a really big deal in the scheme of things but she was in such a state last night it was really upsetting. I appreciate all of your responses).

Distraction, distraction, distraction (as well as all the other great ideas that people have posted. Watching her favorate DVD may well help to take her mind off things

CrushWithEyeliner · 29/02/2008 09:35
