Today I had results for a swab for a rash that has appeared inbwteen my bum cheeks and very lower end of spine. I've had it a few weeks anyway the swabs showed a healthy growth of streptococcus a. And ive been given a course of amoxcillin antibiotics . But the doctor didn't say what cream I could use on it also I was thinking a canestan any one got any ideas?

Not canestan, that's for fungal infections. If you are taking antibiotics you probably don't need anything but I gues sudocrem would sooth it if you need that

pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 20:47

Hipiscrub maybe? Antiseptic washes?

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 14/08/2023 20:52

Savlon?

Why do you need to use cream? Is it itchy or sore etc?

I would personally put sudocream on it and put cotton pads on top (they will stick).

But really time will heal it,

Dermol. It is antimicrobial but not antibiotic/antifungal/steroid so it will do no harm to delicate areas and is a nice smooth cream that's easily absorbed. Very soothing.

It’s a bacteria I believe

Anemone414 · 14/08/2023 21:10

Sudocrem, it's soothing and healing, and antibacterial

Apprenticenomore · 14/08/2023 21:14

Streptococcus is a GPC (gram positive cocci) bacteria. I’m a microbiologist but these things are easily found out through google. Mainly found on animals/humans. It’s usually found in the nose and throat etc (strep throat for example) but can infect wounds too) so no canestan would be pointless. Topical ointment such as mupirocin would be your best bet

@Apprenticenomore thanks for the explanation. Is epaderm cream suitable to use as I already use that for lichen sclerosis its like a barrier and moisturiser

Dermol 500 for washing the area and applying afterwards .it’s anti bacterial and be helpful even after the infection is cleared .

Apprenticenomore · 14/08/2023 21:56

@Woodward23 I feel like the epidermis would just smother the area but not treat. Your best bet is anti bacterial cream if you want to treat it as fast as you can. And possibly washing the area with salt water? Keep everything as clean as possible.

Apprenticenomore · 14/08/2023 21:56

Epaderm

gogomoto · 14/08/2023 21:58

Sudocreme is a cure all, can't go wrong with it!

@Apprenticenomore ok what type of cream is antibacterial that I would just have to hand in our cuboards sudocreme germolene savlon

Woodward23 · 14/08/2023 22:03

I think there's even fucidin and daktacort @Apprenticenomore

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 15/08/2023 08:47

Fucidin and Daktacort are both antifungals, no good.

Germalene and savlon are antiseptic- but I don't know what the difference is between antiseptic, antibiotic and anti microbial!

pickledandpuzzled · 15/08/2023 08:48

My 'go to' is salt water and a hair dryer.

Keeps it clean and dry so nothing can breed.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 15/08/2023 09:15

I'd take the antibiotics and slap some metanium on the offending area- will dry it out and is bloody miraculous
