Anyone know anything about either of these. Have been offered these as a solution to very heavy and irregular periods.

Not sure i want either of them tbh

Just not sure what else i can do.

well I'm using the mirena coil and it has stopped the heavy and irregular periods, I now have very very very light spotting/bleeding for one week every month/5 weeks. Many people stop beeding altogether.

I don't like having the hormones in me but I'm not ready for sterilisation and an edometrial ablation due to my age/circumstances - something to consider in 5 years or so for me.

I think the mirena is worth a try much better than taking all the drugs to reduce the bleeding etc. If it makes you mental/homonal etc etc then you can have it taken out IYSWIM

Wot Cargirl said. Word for word.

aGalChangedHerName · 28/02/2008 17:50

How long have you had it Cargirl? The doc said i might have problems for 3-6 months spotting etc but tbh it can't be any worse than what i am having now.

DH has had the snip so the ablation wouldnt bother me that way but the heart failure/womb perforation etc worries me greatly.

I've had it 2.5 years, I use a pant liner for about a week I probably only need to for 2 days. My hairdresser has had hers a few months and now doesn't bleed at all my gp said I probably still bleed because I'm young (34 at the time).

It's fine though compared to not wanting to leave the house for 3 days because of the flooding and I kept getting aneamic

BoysOnToast · 28/02/2008 18:03

id say try the morena and if it doesnt work, then go for the more drastic solution,. no?

aGalChangedHerName · 28/02/2008 18:04

Yeah it's gotta be better than that. I am the same. I am a CM and when i have AF i have to stay home with my dd's and the mindees. Drives me mad being housebound once and twice a month.

Will see gp tomorrow when i take dd and make an appt to have the Mirena. If it's really not working i can always have it removed can't i?

Was it painful to have it done?

I had it inserted 4 weeks after giving birth (to dd4) and didn't feel a thing, assuming you've had a couple of vaginal births it shouldn't be that much different to having a smear. I went to family planning to get mine done on the assumption as they do more they are quicker/better at doing them plus they do evening appts.

I also had v.heavy periods, altho' not irregular. But I used to be housebound too. My Dr's prescribed me Tranexamic Tablets. It helps blood clotting and I take it when AF starts for 4 days.
I now have normal periods. Hurray. and even went out on Sat night - the first day of my period!!

aGalChangedHerName · 28/02/2008 18:11

Is that like Ponstan ismellofbabysick?

Have tried that and hasn't helped at all.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 28/02/2008 18:15

yes the tranexamic tablets helped me too but buying them and having to remember to take them was a pain plus my periods then lasted even longer then the 9ish days they were already.

ismellofbabysick · 28/02/2008 18:19

no idea I'm afraid. According to the leaflet the tablets are used by haemopheliacs. That's all I can remember as I threw the leaflet away.
If your going to the Dr's tomorrow can't harm to ask.
My Dh has had the snip so I didn't want contaception, she told me to try these to see if they worked and thankfully they did. Otherwise I think she would have offered me the Endometrial ablation

aGalChangedHerName · 28/02/2008 18:22

Yes will ask her at my appt. Thanks for all the advice

I have a friend who has just had the ablation after years of struggling with flooding, unsuccessful coil and with doctors to take her seriously . After a grotty week or 2 (the GA knocked her back more than she'd expected) she is a now a changed woman. Happy, free and wishing she'd done it years ago so don't be afraid to go for it if that's what's recommended.

good luck with whatever you do
