Mirena coil or Endometrial ablation??

Anyone know anything about either of these. Have been offered these as a solution to very heavy and irregular periods.

Not sure i want either of them tbh

Just not sure what else i can do.

well I'm using the mirena coil and it has stopped the heavy and irregular periods, I now have very very very light spotting/bleeding for one week every month/5 weeks. Many people stop beeding altogether.

I don't like having the hormones in me but I'm not ready for sterilisation and an edometrial ablation due to my age/circumstances - something to consider in 5 years or so for me.

I think the mirena is worth a try much better than taking all the drugs to reduce the bleeding etc. If it makes you mental/homonal etc etc then you can have it taken out IYSWIM

How long have you had it Cargirl? The doc said i might have problems for 3-6 months spotting etc but tbh it can't be any worse than what i am having now.

DH has had the snip so the ablation wouldnt bother me that way but the heart failure/womb perforation etc worries me greatly.

I've had it 2.5 years, I use a pant liner for about a week I probably only need to for 2 days. My hairdresser has had hers a few months and now doesn't bleed at all my gp said I probably still bleed because I'm young (34 at the time).

It's fine though compared to not wanting to leave the house for 3 days because of the flooding and I kept getting aneamic

id say try the morena and if it doesnt work, then go for the more drastic solution,. no?

Yeah it's gotta be better than that. I am the same. I am a CM and when i have AF i have to stay home with my dd's and the mindees. Drives me mad being housebound once and twice a month.

Will see gp tomorrow when i take dd and make an appt to have the Mirena. If it's really not working i can always have it removed can't i?

Was it painful to have it done?

I had it inserted 4 weeks after giving birth (to dd4) and didn't feel a thing, assuming you've had a couple of vaginal births it shouldn't be that much different to having a smear. I went to family planning to get mine done on the assumption as they do more they are quicker/better at doing them plus they do evening appts.

I also had v.heavy periods, altho' not irregular.But I used to be housebound too. My Dr's prescribed me Tranexamic Tablets. It helps blood clotting and I take it when AF starts for 4 days.
I now have normal periods. Hurray. and even went out on Sat night - the first day of my period!!

yes the tranexamic tablets helped me too but buying them and having to remember to take them was a pain plus my periods then lasted even longer then the 9ish days they were already.

no idea I'm afraid. According to the leaflet the tablets are used by haemopheliacs. That's all I can remember as I threw the leaflet away.
If your going to the Dr's tomorrow can't harm to ask.
My Dh has had the snip so I didn't want contaception, she told me to try these to see if they worked and thankfully they did. Otherwise I think she would have offered me the Endometrial ablation

I have a friend who has just had the ablation after years of struggling with flooding, unsuccessful coil and with doctors to take her seriously . After a grotty week or 2 (the GA knocked her back more than she'd expected) she is a now a changed woman. Happy, free and wishing she'd done it years ago so don't be afraid to go for it if that's what's recommended.
