Thrush - same time every single month

Whilst I wait for a swab any ideas why this is happening.

For the last 6 months exactly the day after i ovulate I start to feel a bit itchy/sore with loads of cottage cheese thick type discharge. It then goes after a few days ( with or without treatment) it's driving me crazy!

any thoughts?

thanks so much! X

I think it just happens to some women due to normal hormonal changes during the month.

I have had the same problem for years. I never had thrush then suddenly started getting every single month, a few days before my period.

Has your GP suggested treatment options to you? I took fluconalzole once a week for 6 months and I ended up with about 4 months thrush free after I stopped, then it came back again. It does work for some women though.

I've been taking probiotics to help prevent it and it does seem to make a difference - in 6 months I've only had thrush once and I managed to get rid of it with the probiotics only, when previously it would have taken 2 doses of fluconazole to get rid of it.

Out of interest, are you sensitive to hormonal changes in any other way? Around the time my thrush started I also started to get bad acne and mood swings around my period. I'm wondering if it's all linked.

Ahhh me too! It drives me mad and I don't get why it goes away without treatment but it's definitely a yeast infection.

About a week after my period ends, which probably roughly ties in with ovulation.

I'm in my early 50s but not yet menopausal. It's been maybe 4 years so possibly a perimenopausal thing.

I've not used my mooncup for the last 2 cycles in case that was the culprit but no difference.

I had this (and occasionally still get it). I have the Mirena coil and so don't actually have periods, but I was getting thrush once a month consistently in line with other "time of the month" symptoms. I suffered for roughly a year whilst self medicating then tracked it and realised it was happening monthly.

I spoke to a female doctor who basically told me some people get "cyclical" thrush and there's not much that can be done. So she gave me a triple dose of oral treatment (one tablet every 3 days for 9 days) and then a 9 month supply of tablets to take as soon as symptoms started. I then bought my own from an online chemist as it was cheaper than prescription (and when I first requested a repeat prescription and explained I was still suffering they didn't do anything except prescribe more tablets).

Anyway, suddenly in April this year it seemed to have just stopped! I've made no major changes to my diet or lifestyle in that time. So I have no idea why it happened or why it stopped. But, you have my sympathies for his horrible situation.. it's awful every month unless you take an oral tablet as soon as it starts.

Remmy123 · 12/08/2023 18:20

Thanks - I'll see if they can prescribe me the oral tablets and see if that helps I can't keep getting it it's awful!

I felt really aggrieved that I was basically brushed off twice after seeking help. It's really awful and very draining. But the doctor I spoke to and the one on the online portal the second time just aren't interested. As I say, thankfully it's eased for me but I've felt the start of it a couple of times and taken a tablet, but not monthly for a few months

I have this exact same thing at the same time of the month. Been to dr again this morning who gave me antibiotics in case it's a uti, but I don't think that's right. It's making me miserable

Remmy123 · 12/08/2023 20:06

Oh gosh I can't imagine why they wouid prescribe antibiotics nothing to do with UTI!

I had read optibac pro biotics are good - may help some of you in here but did nothing for me!

Have you had your blood sugar tested? Recurrent thrush was my first symptom of diabetes.

Remmy123 · 12/08/2023 21:20

@MsJuniper I have read this I do not have any other symptoms and it's exact time easy month so has to be down to hormonal change

Just came back on to say thank you to the poster who recommended optibac. I've been taking the optibac for women and it appears to have worked for me. Had years of the cycle and I'm hoping it's not just a fluke but so far it seems to have helped me no end!

Somerandomgirl · 17/02/2024 15:46

I get exactly the same thing, i think its just the whole ovulation process and change of everything . It just goes away after few days. I do take probiotics aswell, it helps or just that it goes away naturally ..

Remmy123 · 17/02/2024 23:35

I am the op - I still get it but not did bad
