Dull ache in chest and left arm - any other causes than heart failure?

I know the answer to this is to go to a doctor but I’m pretty confident I don’t have heart failure. I went for a run earlier and did some arm exercises. I also had a thorough screening at a heart clinic last year as part of a long covid pathway, including scans and monitor, and my heart was fine. But I can’t find any other causes for googling after heart failure.

the cheat pain is just before I wee and very dull but it passes - worse when a bit dehydrated. The very similar dull ache in my left arm just started today and now I can swear I can feel it in my left leg too. I have been pretty anxious lately for unrelated reasons.

im not asking anyone to diagnose me and promise I will go to a doctor or even a&e if it gets worse and feels any more alarming. It doesn’t FEEL like anything serious and I’m a hypochondriac at the best of times but I can’t work out what it could be.

I suppose I’m just hoping someone else will say ahh I get that and think it’s caused by xyz. Not expecting anyone to tell me its definitely NOT my heart!

"I have been pretty anxious lately for unrelated reasons." I think that's the cause of your vague symptoms. You should see a GP (not out of hours or anything) and perhaps get the anxiety sorted out.

Kidney infection?

TVstolemyevenings · 11/08/2023 21:45

Ache in chest and left arm is cardiac until proven otherwise.

not heart failure, but angina or a heart attack/myocardial infarction.

heart failure is different.

go and see a doctor now. Women can present very atypically for myocardial infarctions.

GarlicGrace · 11/08/2023 21:47

You should probably assume heart (early warning) but I did have similar with a kidney infection. Does the skin on your left arm or leg feel cold to the touch? Colder than the right-hand side, that is.

dudsville · 11/08/2023 21:51

I agree with the pp saying heart has to be checked and ruled out first.

And I add that fir me my ecg's were clear but i then had a ct scan and they found a blockage. Get checked before taking any reassurance from Internet strangers.

Ok thanks for the info and quick comments everyone.
I’d naively assumed my heart must fine after all the checks I had (this was a standard long covid clinic not because I’d specifically had heart problems). But this info is helpful thank you. Hope you are well now @dudsville
@GarlicGrace not specifically colder no, but feels a bit like the dull pain or ache when coming down with something if that makes any sense at all

These are typical heart attack symptoms.

Go to a&e.

crazeekat · 11/08/2023 22:47

please see a
professional. i finished work, came
home sat down within a hour i was blue lighted to the a&e thought i was having a heart attack. it was actually costachrondriatis (spelling) it can mimic a heart attack, i the chest, up your jaw, up your arm.
you need to see a doctor to diagnose
, not listen to all us on
mumsnet.

A and E now. All chest pain needs to be checked out.

SophiaSW1 · 21/09/2024 16:01

No point in going to A&E over a year later... zombie thread
