Anyone had one?
I’m 39 and have been told today that this is the treatment I need, I have nodules (non cancerous) but quite a few and one large one and have to be on meds for rest of life (seems a bit scary to me)

Not me, but my gran had one at around your age. She lived to 92 and was very fit and well for most of that.

I had one. Surgery was okay, no complications, pain manageable with paracetamol/ibuprofen. I’ve been on thyroxine ever since and seem to tolerate it very well. I lead a totally normal life, work full time, 2 kids to run round after etc.

I know it’s a bit scary, I hope that reassures you a bit, I was 32 when I had operations and I’m 38 now x

I had a hemithyroidectomy (also had nodules but only on on one side so half the thyroid was removed, so far no medication needed). Surgery was very straightforward, one night in hospital and only needed paracetamol. I did have a weak/hoarse voice for about 4-6 weeks after but that settled by itself. Good luck with your op, hope the waiting list isn't too long (I waited nearly 2 years, mostly due to COVID backlog!)

@IForgotOurSong thanks this is reassuring! Think I was just shocked initially and when I got home it started to sink in and of course Googling doesn’t help so wanted to hear from people
