Pea Sized Lump...

MIL found a smalll pea sized lump behind DS's left ear yesterday. I've never noticed it before and it doesn't seem to be bothering him - he's 100% normal in himself.

What could this be? Am a real hypocondriac (sp) so when she said she'd found it I went into overdrive!!

My sister's a Dr (although in genetics, and not a GP) and she asked if he'd had any injections recently as apparently they can sometimes cause swolen glands??

Thanks for replying

My ds and dd both had these. I turned into a complete hypochondriac and started feeling my friend's babies heads and necks - and the majority of them had them too

The GP said it was not necessarily a swollen gland as in some children some glands can lie close to the skin and can thus be felt. Indeed, the first one I felt on ds is still there and can still be felt as clearly 8 years later. And he is a healthy, strapping lad

He also said that in babies a slightest thing can swell the glands slightly, even teething, meeting an animal they have never met before, a change of washing powder. So there does not need to be an outward sign of rash/illness, the glands still come up as the immune system processes every new 'thing' it meets.

All in all I saw 3 hcp's (told you I was a hypochondriac) and all said it was nothing to worry about.
